Well done to Murray, couldnt have been more pleased for him
Tennis players are more humble because by and large its an individual sport and they have to work pretty hard to stay at the top. There's no hiding. If you're sh|t, you're sh|t and you wont make it to the top and earn good money. The top ranked tennis players are usually ranked high for a reason, because they're that good. some footballers though, can hide behind the rest of the team for years and stil pick up a nice big wage every week for being very average at their game
As a kid i played tennis to a decent enough standard, for Northern Ireland standards anyway. If you were hoping to reach the final of a tournament you would be expected to play every single day, sometimes twice. Especially if you had entered yourself into more than one age group. You just couldn't do that with football matches, you're body needs more time to recover.
There is no way that tennis is more physically demanding on your body than football. But take nothing away from the tennis players, it's a great sport and I enjoy watching it.
Dunc - I agree with your points, but you're never going to win on a predominantly football-favoured site.

however the spurs players have the mental strength of a sloth
Nobody boots you up in the air during a tennis match

There's no point in comparing the physical demands of different sports! Baseball teams can play 160ish games a season playing almost everyday, does that mean they are in better shape than NFL players who only play once a week!?!
Its all about how the physical demands of the individual sport affect performance! In a sport like baseball they can play day after day(apart from pitcher) as they dont really do that much other than stand in the field throw the odd ball and have a few swings of the bat! If we asked footballers to play night after night, we'd see a serious dip in performance and the quality of the football we get to see these days!
I dont disagree that footballers are pampered in other aspects of life and getting people to come round and change a light bulb is ridiculous! But I dont think there is a need for footballers to play more games or more frequent, if anything a winter break would probably benefit the english game!
Getting hit in the junk by a tennis ball travelling at 100mph is worse than getting hit in the face by a football.
SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH.
Winter break would not make much difference in my opinion to English footballers. Its all about motivation.
How motivated are football players, to be the best at their sport if they're getting paid a nice handsome wage everyweek for not really exerting themselves? Too much money paid to young football players and they go off the rails then and never come back
Liverpool players that are playing for their natioanl teams will be playing 6 games in 18 days.

well they took opening day, and last weekend off, so its only really 4 games in 18 days
Footballers are soft. Compare them to NBA basketball players.
4-5 games a week. 82 game regular season. 100 plus games if you're successful.
They play on Christmas day.
They sprain ankles, have it taped up and go back. they play with broken fingers.
They do they're hamstrings and are back in 1-2 weeks.
Why don't you just have séx with a basketball player then?
Stupid article. Not comparable at all.
MafiaBoy':
Sandy, are you suggesting football players are softer than Cricket players who play for five days?
You try sitting in the pavillion for up to two days at a time with your feet up waiting to bat. It doesn`t come easy.

Cricket, like Equestrian is not a sport

Poor logic Sandy. If you are sitting in the pavilion then the opp.11 are in the field..

Of course it you plank. It is 11 against 11 just like in football. Try to keep up.
Remember football players attend physical training session as well before each game whilst tennis players dont do as intense training. Most of the footballers energy is actual in training as everyone is fighting for a place in the line up.
-----
not really. in most teams i would say that about 7 players are guaranteed to start whether they perform in training or not.

I wager that quite few top Tennis pros would take you to task over that comment. Have you seen the hours on court and in the gym these guys log? Any world class athlete needs to be in top condition, it's not just the preserve of footballers.
