Then where does the "always" come from then?? The Suarez Evra then was a one off, wasn't it?
that song goes back decades. Eff all to do with Suarez
I am just saying where nWo was getting the singular from - I am not trying to dissect a footy chant...
The point of the article was that I was surprised that SAF and the media have come out and said that the chant was about Hillsborough as I never thought this and I wanted to know what other fans thought....
I think the majority agree that it was not about Hillsborough however it was not appropriate to sing it against Wigan and would not be appropriate to sing it tomorrow either...

BBC Website;
The chants at Old Trafford, which included the words "it's never your fault, always the victims", were first sung in the immediate aftermath of the Suarez-Evra racism incident.
The Manchester United Supporters' Trust have since rejected suggestions the chants were referencing Hillsborough.

No it wasn't. It's been there for ages. BBC are clearly wrong here.
And nWo made no sense...

Quiet possibily, I can not say for sure however I do know that it intensified after the Suarez incident and the majority of fans sing this chant for this reason. I have chanted this many times and as there is no reference to Hillsborough I do not see the issue with it (altho as I said it should not be sang tomorrow)
I just wanted to see what other United supporters thought as I would be disgusted to think that they were trying to reference the Hillsborough disaster in football chants..
It's an old chant, that has resurfaced after the Suarez incident.

why are you not reading my posts. You are making a silly accusations here. I am trying to educate you.
Exactly Elvis, just because a chant is reused does not mean that it is for the same reason...
RedBlackandWhiterside - I am reading you posts. You said it refers to Heysel. Maybe when it was sang back then it did refer to Heysel but maybe it is sang now in relation to the Suarez incident?????
In a week the truth was revealed and most teams paid tribute, some United fans chose to sing the chant
Easy as that
it was first sang about Hysel for reasons that are well documented. The result was that English clubs were banned for years.
It was then sung about Hillsboro in the aftermath of the Taylor report.. which as it turns out was based on lies. So this was wrong.
It is now sung about Suarez.. However this incident is tiny and irrelevant compared to the enormancy of other two.
Its an ongoing thing that will never stop between the two sets of supporters, due to historic rivalries. Hopefully a 24hr truce will be called tomorrow.

I have already said (twice I think) that it should not have been sang at the Wigan game, or tomorrow however it is sang at most home and away games.
I don't see your point.......

Exactly my point, this chant is sang for different reasons. United fans now sing it in reference to the Suarez incident so is not disrespecting the Hillsborough victims....

its all connected. I suspect you are very young and are not affected by what we saw or were told about Hysel or Hillsboro. When I hear that song sung it takes me back to both these times. It must for the families of victims at both hillsboro and Hysel.
Let's hope after tomorrows game, it will be a positive goodwill from both supporters and a start to heal old wounds, and let football to be the winner.
It was everything. You could chuck Michael Shields in there as well (without getting into the did he didn't he please).
personally I have no love for Liverpool football club. In footballing terms they are my least favourite club. However, tomorrow that will have relevance until kick off. Before that I will stand United with all football fans and Liverpool football club to respect and pay tribute to those fans who lost their lives through no fault other than attending a football match to support their team like you or me would.
Tomorrow there is no room for ambiguity or misinterpretation. If there is a song that could be deemed to be even slightly disrespectful of those fans who died then you don't sing it.
It's not about club rivalry it's about human decency.
But you'll always have your idiots, no matter what.
Every club has idiots. There are few Liverpool (and City and Leeds) fans who wont let the Munich thing go. Every time we play them. They even call Utd fans Munichs!!
RBW but then we had the Istanbul Reds banner last year. That was shameful.
The victim chant may have been insensitive but it has nothing to do with Hillsborough. Liverpool fans who say otherwise are just being over sensitive. We all know that this chant is about Heysel and the Suarez racial abuse incident didn't help either. Whether you feel the chant is inappropriate or not is entirely up to yourself (considering the timing I think it WAS inappropriate) but it still has nothing to do with Hillsborough so people should wind their necks in before making such accusations.
^ garbage mate, it certainly is a nod towards hillsbrough at the very least. Everyone else in the footballing world and outside were blaming Liverpool fans for hillsbrough. Why would Man U fans be any different?
Hence the "never your fault"
A couple of days afterwards, a sensitive time, Liverpool not even playing man utd, not even playing on the same day, and the apes that call themselves man utd fans singing about Liverpool and Hillsbrough.
wonder if we will hear the "the sun was right, murderers!" chant again today.
The song clearly encompasses every incident in which Liverpool have claimed to be 'victims' in others' eyes. That would include everything from Hillsborough to Suarez IMO.
The timing of it the other week was shocking and reflected poorly on the Utd fans, whether they have been singing it for ages or not. The fans should have taken a moment to think about the implications after that report came out.
In fairness I think this article is starting to tread a thin line between relevance and victim mentality. If the victim chant is used today I think we all agree it would be insensitive. However, I disagree that it's always been sung in relation to Hillsborough.
I also think United are as much "victims" as Liverpool fans because of the Munich chants that have been going on far longer than anything else. Munich was just as much a tragedy as hillsborough and people shouldn't lose sight of that ie the media. I accept that today there needs to be calm because the report is still fresh but there is the air of Liverpool victims united perpetrators gathering pace and that would be wrong because the picture of abuse goes way bigger than Hillsborough and has to be taken in to account.
Finally, I can confirm that in debates with Liverpool fans I have often said, it's never your fault. Not once has that been in reference to hillsborough. I was there that day and having witnessed the carnage I would never disrespect the dead by making such a comment.
