I think they were knackered towards the end and that is perfectly understandable after Tuesday.

We were considerably better in the first half and Northampton were sluggish and half asleep. We ran rings round them.

Second half was a totally different story as we began to tire.

I found the Northampton football extremely ugly and agricultural - but effective under the circumstances.

Their keeper had a blinder - until he fouled up for our 3rd goal.

I think a draw was probably a fair result. I heard a few Northampton fans state that they thought they were going to win it and at 2-2 that looked likely.

Two odd things today.

1) I thought Stanno was out for a few weeks.

2) Maghoma going out to the right for much of the second half. He was effective on the left cutting in and that threat was effectively extinguished when he went to the right.

Some poor decisions from the management today gents im sorry to say.Having said that please dont think that i am calling them down it was just wrong what they did when they put one up front when we were 2-1 up.It reminds me of the Pesc era and i know now it was a Rowett thing and my god what a negative tactic. All you Capital one cup fans take note what a waste of time that cup is and realise how important our league status is,yes i detest the competion and will never attend such a waste of time.Today it was 2 points lost and brought on through players being jaded by a competion that means nothing and that really annoys me.

ok its a point today, but the point is we threw away three points today. Burton sould have put the game to bed in the first half but there goal keeper totaly kept them in the game and has to be there man of the match. Northampton did there home work on how to change the game and that was to go in heavy on Zola and that work with a lot of help from the ref

Northampton soon worked it out that the ref was not going to do a thing if you pole axe the other player. They also worked it out if you get near the box with a few players around you just go to ground and collect a nice free kick, but to give them credit they must take a lot of free kicks in training.
One up front just does not work for us. Attack is the only way , we just can not sit back and soak in wave after wave of attack. The fact is one will find the back of the net.
I do think this team is a good team and we can beat anyone in this league, but the tactics are letting them down.
Come on Garry sort it out , lets not go throwing any more points away.

I managed to speak to one of the coaches at the end of the game. Calv started with a hip injury, Mags with a groin problem and Pato with a knee problem - for 30 minutes I thought these three took Northampton apart, some of our football was outstanding. Paterson should have been taken off after the challenge with the keeper in the first half as he got a dead leg and could hardly run/jump - he was ineffective after this. Mags moving wings didn't help and I am keeping my fingers crossed for Calv, because by the sound of it he's not too good. Kiernon I thought was dodgy, he got battered by Akinfenwa, but that said he batters everyone. Northampton were simply out to kick anything that moved first half, I was seriously disappointed with them. Second half when they got their first goal they switched up a few gears and hammered us.

That said when we went 3 -2 up we should have shut up shop. Stanno coming on steading the ship, Webby should have come on earlier

Still a year ago, we would have laid down and been walked over. We have a very aggressive attacking team, we have goal scorers who will find the back of the net, long may it continue!

Believe we could have a lot of changes for Tuesday night at Southend - loads of injuries.

Good article Steve very well summed up, I especially like your report card which I totally agree with!

"Today's report card says - making excellent progress, but need to be more confident in our own abilities because when we play, we are actually rather good!"

I think you've all said what needs to be said. We were unfortunate not to take all three points, but fortunate to hold on for one!

Up front we look the best we have done for a long, long time. Agree with DerbyYellow for the first half an hour Calv, Mags and Paterson were buzzing. Otep, nail on the head, when they swapped Mags to the right we lost a lot of his effectiveness.

Not too sure about Kiernon, he didn't make many mistakes but I am sure he is black and blue after the hammering he got from fatboy Akinfenwe!

I thought the Referee was shocking. O'Connor was taken out at knee height twice in the space of a couple of minutes and (I believe both times it was Widdowson) just smiled when he didn't get booked. The tackle second half on Mags deserved a red.

Boothroyd is a gobshite, we played all the football, he sends his sides out to kick crap out of the opposition.

Decided to go to Southend on Tuesday - more of the same please
