No ones ever been enslaved for being fat or ginger
Do you really think it's just because of slavery that someone may take more offence to a racist term than a comment about their hair colour?
Not condoning any name calling but history, really?!

______
No not just that
Sutton, tbh, I definitely you can stop someone from having a job if there is tantamount evidence that they are likely to be prejudiced against certain 'types' of people. And football team owners are supposed to undergo fit and proper person tests, so why shouldn't managers. Anyway, slightly off point. And manofthehouse - what do you mean by 'so-called racist terms' - you mean racist terms, don't you? And yes, all prejudice is bad, but racism has caused years of people being kept out of a society they are perfectly capable of playing a role in, gingerism and fatism have not.

People can think what they like. As long as they're fair. Being racist isn't and can never be a crime. You can't do people for thought crimes
yeah, but it isn't and never has been thoughts in the instance of Di Canio. Racist provocation and inciting racial hatred are very much crimes.
you can be banned for drugs etc - why not for being a racist ***t

I'm uncomfortable with the whole saga to be honest. Whilst I can think of many reasons to dislike John Terry I'm not sure being a racist is one of them.
He was found not guilty in a court of law, as well as the FA declaring in their findings that whilst he used racist language he is not a racist which seems to be a complete cop out.
Anton Ferdinand says he didn't hear anything on the pitch and was first aware of it when John Terry came to speak to him after the match which doesn't strike me as behavior of a typical racist.
No one else has come forward to testify that they have heard him use a derogatory racist in the past.
Whilst there may be the fear of legal repercussions of making allegations I would have thought something would have emerged by now if he had previous form on this.
To be fair, I don't think Terry is a racist person. He said racist things that he shouldn't have, but I don't think he is a racist. Suarez is. And Sutton, Di Canio has been seen to be involved in fascist groups in Italy, he made the sieg heil salute at a game, these are not just thoughts - they are racist actions, performed to demonstrate racist attitudes publicly, and incite racial hatred. This is a crime. Not just a thought.
Being involved in a fascist group doesn't make you a racist. The Italian fascists were around before the N a z i s and weren't all racist - at least not in the beginning.
To be fair, I don't think Terry is a racist person. He said racist things that he shouldn't have, but I don't think he is a racist.
____
I'd say that's a fact, bearing in mind a court of law that found him not guilty said that was case and the FA said the same.
As for Di Canio if anyone can tell me he's treated anyone differently because of their race then I'd say kick him out of football now. I don't think he has.
Sutton, I think one of his ex players who was on loan accused him of being racist but not sure how far the allegation went.
I've read most of this article and as usual lots of opinions being voiced.
There's lots of talk regarding the financing of the kick it out 'organisation', well how about this, if the players don't think the organisation is doing enough or have their hands tied by their sponsors, why don't they dip their hands in their pockets.
What I'm suggesting here is that all players from all professional leagues in th uk pay one weeks wages toward the funding of this organisation and the current sponsors drop their funding. This will stop any thoughts of hands being tied, will provide a hell of a lot more funding than the suggested £500K, make them truly independent and should also get all of the players fully behind the movement.
Sutton, the court have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Terry was racist and that there's no way his story about repeating Ferdinand's comments wasn't true. They couldn't so not guilty. It's just the way the law is and there's nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't say that him being found not guilty means he isn't racist.
The FA didn't have to prove this, they said that there's reason to believe those comments were said in a racist way.
Sutton, the court have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Terry was racist
_____
The FA and the court said, based on the evidence they saw it was clear he isn't racist. But he wasn't charged with being a racist, being racist isn't a crime.
This is what winds be up. He called someone a name. To bring someones race in to it is wrong and should be punished. But it's not like he's recruiting for the BNP it's not like he hasn't worked well with and obviously won the friendship and respect of people of many races nationalities and religions.
He says one, admittedly wrong and offensive thing and people want to end his career. They want him tied to goal at Stamford bridge and publicly whipped to within an inch of his life. People join the snarling hate mob to prove how open minded they are.
You hear some right nonsense. Idiots saying things like they feel physically that a man like terry can caption a epl side. We've gone mad in this country we like to think we're the grown up, mature, open minded nation. When our media and fans act like hysterical loonies.
A bloke on Sunday supplement today said its good we're talking about the Terry thing over a year after, it shows we're facing up to our responsibility. It shows we've lost it. Three words Ferdinand didn't even hear and it's still an issue.
We need to move on and stop being idiots.
To be fair, Terry hasn't only done one thing. As a player, I rate him. As a person, he's pretty much a low life. One racist incident. Plenty of other questionable behaviour. I think that's why some people are so against him. Personally, I'm not. But just pointing it out.
And Sutton, you're quite obviously ignoring everything anyone is saying. You keep saying being racist isn't a crime. But it is a crime to racially abuse anyone or to in anyway incite racial hatred.
Should Stuart Pearce be allowed to manage his country? Should he have been allowed to win 90 odd caps?
He "racially abused" someone. A few out there that want Terry's career finished. I bet any Forest fans that are on there high horses about Terry defend Psycho.
So again, ignore everything that's been said and come out with an another irrelevant snippet. Well done.
And why is racially abused in inverted commas? He did racially abuse someone. Fact. And no, I don't defend it. He admitted it and apologised, though. Terry hasn't. And I have actually said that I don't think Terry is a racist but it seems you are a bit too uninformed to actually respond to anything people say to you.
Terry has apologised. He's had stick for doing it late but he could hardly do it while he was fighting his case.
So an apology is enough? I'm not sure why your so angry or what parts of what's been said you'd like me to respond too. You have a habit of losing your rag if someone disagrees with you.
And "racially abused" is in inverted commas because its politically correct mumbo jumbo. He called him a name. The term abused implies the person on the wrong end is in some way weak and open to abuse. In both cases we're talking about rich powerful men. Not weaklings that can be picked on.

The court said he was not guilty; this is how our system works. The system does not, however, state that he was innocent.
________
I know. But what does that mean? You can say to anyone who's tried and found not guilty, you weren't found innocent so you probably still did it.
Not that it really matters.
I suppose all I'm saying is, if he did it he's done wrong. He's been punished, it doesn't make him a bad person and we should all just get on with it.
Going on about it as our media, football authorities and some players are doing will only make things worse. I was talking about this in the pub over the weekend and most in there had had enough, were sick of hearing it and felt there had been an overaction. If a lot think like that a good cause loses support.
Sutton, I think you'll find you're the only person on here I lose my rag with. Seeing you put racially abusing in inverted commas is enough to make that happen. It's nonsense that it's not abuse because they are two rich powerful men. I'm not a weak person at all, but I've been racially abused a lot of times and it is not a nice thing to go through at all, trust me. And Terry apologised for the words, but still never admitted that he used them in the way he did.
