Netherlands women's manager Sarina Wiegman is the Football Association's preferred choice to succeed Phil Neville as England's head coach.

The FA is in negotiations with the former Netherlands midfielder, whose team won the 2017 European Championship and reached the 2019 World Cup final.

England-born ex-USA manager Jill Ellis, who has won the past two World Cups, is also thought to be in the running.

Wiegman, 50, has a contract with the Dutch FA until 2021.

One of the negotiating points is whether Wiegman would be appointed before the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and therefore manage the Great Britain team.

The Games in Japan are due to take place from 23 July to 8 August.

Rangers moved to the top of the Scottish Premiership with a clinical win over St Johnstone.

The visitors limited Steven Gerrard's side to two first-half chances, but both were taken - a Borna Barisic free-kick and Ryan Kent shot on the turn.

A Joe Aribo header shortly after half-time settled the game.

Rangers move ahead of Hibernian on goal difference after three straight wins, with both now five points clear of champions Celtic.

With Neil Lennon's side having their midweek game postponed after Boli Bolingoli's Covid-19 lockdown indiscretion, their city rivals took full advantage.

Wigan may not be able to start the new season if the club is not sold by 31 August, say the Latics' administrators.

Four parties are in talks but administrators say if a deal is not completed it would leave them responsible for the team and the fulfilment of fixtures.

In a statement they said "they do not wish to commit to something we cannot see through" if the club is not sold.

The English Football League season is due to begin on Saturday, 12 September.

Despite the ultimatum, the administrators say they are optimistic a deal can be done.
