Mason Mount missed the crucial spot-kick as Tottenham edged past Chelsea on penalties after a 1-1 draw to reach the Carabao Cup fifth round.

A total of nine penalties had been converted before Mount stepped up to take the 10th, but the England midfielder's effort clipped the post and went wide.

Chelsea had dominated the first half and new signing Timo Werner netted his first goal for the club with a clinical finish into the bottom corner.

Spurs responded well after the break and debutant Sergio Reguilon's side-footed effort from inside the area was pushed over the crossbar by Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who was also making his first appearance for his new club.

Jose Mourinho's side got their rewards seven minutes from time when Spaniard Reguilon's cross sailed through to the back post for Erik Lamela to coolly convert from six yards.

With no extra time played, the match went straight to penalties and Mount was the only player to miss.

Veteran commentator Clive Tyldesley has reportedly been sacked from featuring on future Soccer Aid matches after he was criticised for 'fat-shaming' players during this year's event.

The match was aired on ITV in September and featured former players and celebrities taking on each other in an England vs Rest of the World clash in a bid to raise money for charity.

But according to The Sun two players among the England team in Tom Davis and Chunkz were left 'devastated' after being 'fat shamed' by Tyldesley during his commentary of the game.

FC Sion originally drew 0-0 and won 3-1 against Celtic F.C. in the Europa League. However, UEFA overturned the results and awarded Celtic F.C. 3-0 forfeit victories for both legs of the tie. FC Sion lost their appeal to re-enter the competition.

The Swiss Football Association deducted 36 points from FC Sion. Three points were deducted for each of the 12 league and cup matches in which one or more of the six ineligible players appeared. The 36 points deduction left FC Sion in last place and minus 5 points. FIFA had threatened to suspend the Swiss Football Association if there was no action against FC Sion. This meant that all national teams and clubs under the jurisdiction of the Swiss Football Association would not be allowed to participate in any FIFA and UEFA competition.

Jonny Evans is in Northern Ireland's squad for the European Championship play-off against Bosnia-Herzegovina and two Nations League matches.

The defender was an injury concern after hobbling off late in Leicester City's win over Manchester City on Sunday with a calf problem.

NI face Bosnia in Sarajevo on 8 October, host Austria on 11 October and are away to Norway on 14 October.

Tom Flanagan returns to the squad and Alistair McCann gets a first call-up.

St Johnstone midfielder McCann is included in a 26-man squad named by manager Ian Baraclough for the triple-header, moving up from the Under-21 set-up.

Rafael Nadal sent another ominous warning to his French Open rivals by dropping five games in a third-round win over Italy's Stefano Travaglia.

Nadal, 34, is looking for a record-extending 13th title and looked comfortably at home on Court Philippe Chatrier in a 6-1 6-4 6-0 victory.

Travaglia, 28, won just six points in the first set but settled down to make it more of a contest for the Spaniard.

However, Nadal upped the tempo again to set up a meeting with Sebastian Korda.

"To win against a player like Stefano with this score is because I did a lot of things well, I played more aggressive than the previous days so I'm happy with that," said second seed Nadal.

"I went to the net more often, I hit a lot more winners, my serve is working."

Andy Murray defeated defending champion Novak Djokovic in the final 7–6(12–10), 7–5, 2–6, 3–6, 6–2 to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 2012 US Open. The final lasted 4 hours and 54 minutes, in a record-equaling US Open final in the Open Era. This was Murray's first Grand Slam Championship and became the first British man since Fred Perry, winner of the US Open in 1936, to win a Grand Slam championship after having been runner-up on four previous occasions.

Andy Roddick, the 2003 US Open Champion and former World No. 1, played his last professional match here before retirement, losing to 2009 champion Juan Martín del Potro in a 4 setter fourth round match and bringing a close to his 13-year career.

The 2012 tournament marked the first time since the 2004 French Open that neither Roger Federer nor Rafael Nadal (who withdrew from the tournament due to a knee injury) reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam event.

This tournament ended the streak of five years in which Djokovic and Federer faced each other at the US Open.
