Cedric Itten rescued a draw for Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers against resolute Motherwell to restore their 21-point lead over Celtic.

The substitute headed in Borna Barisic's cross and scored against Well for the fourth time this season.

Devante Cole had put the hosts ahead in the first half from Tony Watt's cross.

Itten's leveller prevented Motherwell becoming the first side to beat Rangers in the league this term, with the hosts moving off bottom spot.

Cole also temporarily kept his team in front by clearing Connor Goldson's header off the line.

Graham Alexander made it two draws out of two since taking over at Motherwell, who are only the third team to take points of Rangers this season and are ahead of bottom side Hamilton Academical on goal difference. The Steelmen also have games in hand over the sides around them.

Rangers' sequence of 15 successive league wins comes to an end and defending champions Celtic could cut their deficit to 18 points when they visit Livingston on Wednesday.

Boca Juniors have won the inaugural Diego Armando Maradona Cup by beating Banfield 5-3 on penalties.

Maradona died in November and Argentina renamed its League Cup in honour of the great, who was a former Boca player.

Boca led through Edwin Carmona's strike but Luciano Lollo equalised in stoppage time for Banfield, moments after Boca had Emmanuel Mas sent off.

Boca converted all five of their penalty kicks with Jorge Rodriguez missing the decisive kick for Banfield.

"This cup is a tribute to Diego, and he'll surely be accompanying our celebrations," said Boca's Ramon Abila.

The win came after Boca were knocked out of the Copa Libertadores by Santos in midweek.

Jayne Ludlow has left her job as manager of Wales' women.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) says Ludlow has departed the role she has held since 2014 by mutual consent.

The FAW says there will now be a "thorough recruitment process" to select the 42-year-old's successor.

"My time as the national team manager has been an eventful and exciting journey," Ludlow said. "It has been an honour and an absolute pleasure to have worked with the staff and players."

Ludlow, who is the only manager to have taken charge of more than 50 Wales women's matches, leaves having taken Wales close to major finals qualification in their last two campaigns.

Newport County goalkeeper Tom King scored the first goal of his career as the Exiles drew 1-1 away at Cheltenham Town.

The 25-year-old's goal-kick was picked up in the wind before Robins goalkeeper Josh Griffiths was caught out by the bounce as the ball sailed into the net.

Newport players ran all the way back into their own penalty area to celebrate with King, who was included in Wales' international squad for the first time in November 2019.

Stunned by the goal the Cheltenham players appeared to appeal to officials, but after a quick discussion between the referee Peter Wright and the fourth official the goal was given.

King was then forced into more familiar action, as he denied Alfie May and Finn Azaz at the other end of the pitch.

But the County goalkeeper could not prevent Matty Blair from levelling the score late in the first half from a tight angle.

England coach Chris Silverwood says it is "always nice to see the opposition under pressure" following Australia's stunning series defeat by India.

India chased a Gabba record 328 to inflict Australia's first defeat in Brisbane since 1988 and win a memorable series 2-1.

England will attempt to regain the Ashes in Australia later this year.

"It shows that if we do the basics well and get stuck in, we can beat them," said Silverwood.

Australia captain Tim Paine has come in for criticism over his leadership, wicketkeeping and behaviour during the contest with India.
