C'mon Eriksen!

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen is "awake" in hospital after collapsing in the Euro 2020 match against Finland, said the Danish Football Association.

The 29-year-old's condition has been "stabilised", according to tournament organisers Uefa.

The Group B game was suspended before half-time after the Inter Milan player fell to the ground.

Referee Anthony Taylor immediately called for medical support and Eriksen received treatment on the field.

England face defeat in the series decider against New Zealand after another insipid batting performance on the third day of the second Test.

Joe Root's side crumbled to 112-9 under glorious sunshine at Edgbaston, only 37 runs ahead.

England had battled their way back into the contest on an entertaining day, taking the final seven New Zealand wickets for 96 runs to dismiss them for 388.

Faced with a first-innings deficit of 85, the hosts had the opportunity to set a challenging fourth-innings chase, only for their top order to disintegrate.

In the face of some superb New Zealand bowling, England found themselves 30-3 and 76-7, and eventually needed a stand of 44 between Olly Stone and Mark Wood to drag the game into a fourth day.

Still, barring something utterly remarkable on Sunday, England will go down to their first home series defeat in seven years.

Finland won their first game at a major finals as they beat Denmark in a Euro 2020 match that was overshadowed by Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsing on the pitch.

Eriksen, 29, collapsed after 41 minutes and received CPR on the pitch as his visibly-distressed team-mates surrounded him and fans around the world watched in shock.

After approximately 15 minutes of treatment, the Inter Milan star was carried off on a stretcher. Supporters from both countries chanted his name while both sets of teams spent the next hour in their dressing rooms.

Only when informed that he was awake in hospital did the players agree to resume the match.

England have "no chance" of regaining the Ashes in Australia if their batting continues to be "fragile", says former captain Michael Vaughan.

Joe Root's side face a series defeat by New Zealand after being reduced to 122-9 - leading by 37 - on the third day of the second Test at Edgbaston.

England play five Tests against India before the winter tour of Australia.

"They now have just five chances to sort the batting out before the Ashes," Vaughan told BBC Test Match Special.

"They can't arrive in Australia with a batting line-up this fragile - they'd have no chance."

A body has been found following a search operation to find a kayaker who went missing off the Sussex coast.

Shane Davies was last seen at about 15:30 BST on Saturday after he got into difficulty in the sea off the Pagham and Selsey beach area.

The 33-year-old was kayaking with a friend but they became separated.

Coastguards carried out an extensive search and a body was discovered in the water on Sunday morning, which police said is believed to be Mr Davies.

Next of kin and the coroner have been informed, officers said.

England's Euro 2020 campaign got off to a satisfactory start as Raheem Sterling's goal secured victory over Croatia at Wembley.

Sterling repaid England manager Gareth Southgate's faith in him, sliding in the winner after 57 minutes following a perfect pass from man-of-the-match Kalvin Phillips.

Southgate resisted the temptation to play Aston Villa's Jack Grealish and was rewarded with a lively performance from Sterling as England secured the win their superiority deserved.

The Three Lions almost took an early lead when Phil Foden struck a post but there were the first signs of frustration from fans and players just as Sterling made the decisive contribution with his first goal in a major tournament.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was barely tested by a disappointing Croatia side, who never looked like repeating their victory over England in the 2018 World Cup semi-final in Moscow - leaving England with three points to take into Friday's second Group D game against Scotland at Wembley.

Substitutes Marko Arnautovic and Michael Gregoritsch earned Austria their first ever victory at a European Championship as Franco Foda's side edged past tournament debutants North Macedonia in their Group C opener.

Gregoritsch met captain David Alaba's sublime cross with 12 minutes remaining to end North Macedonia's resistance, before Arnautovic put the result beyond doubt after rounding goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.

Veteran striker Goran Pandev looked to have earned a memorable point for Euro 2020's lowest ranked side.

Making his 120th appearance, 20 years on from his international debut, North Macedonia's all-time leading scorer Pandev sent his nation's supporters into raptures in Bucharest when he cancelled out Stefan Lainer's strike.
