Coronation Street's Norris Cole has reportedly been killed off after actor Malcolm Hebden quit the ITV soap earlier this year.
The long-running character is said to have been written out of the soap and died off screen following a 27 year stint on the cobbles.
It comes as the cast including Ken Barlow actor Bill Roache and Norris' on-screen ex-wife Marty Taylor, played by Patti Clare, were seen filming funeral scenes in Manchester earlier this week.

Beach-goers were evacuated from the sea after reports of a "large marine animal" in the water.
Lifeguards instructed swimmers to leave the sea at Boscombe Beach in Bournemouth while they scanned the water on Wednesday.
Visitors took to social media and said there had been a shark sighting.
The RNLI said it received reports of "significant movement" in the water but lifeguards were unable to formally identify the animal.
Visitors were able to re-enter the water 30 minutes later.
Margaret Thatcher gave the UK "a big early start" in the move away from coal-fired power by closing "so many coal mines", Boris Johnson has said.
"We're now down to less than 2%, I think it's I% of our energy comes from coal," the prime minister added.
He was speaking on a visit to an offshore wind farm in the Moray Firth.
The SNP said he had shown he was "completely out of touch with Scotland by making unbelievably crass jokes at the expense of our mining communities".
Labour said he should apologise for the "shameful" comments.
Mr Johnson was being quizzed about preparations for the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, in November, during a two-day visit to Scotland.
Manchester City have signed England midfielder Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a British record £100m.
The 25-year-old joins the Premier League champions on six-year contract and will wear the number 10 shirt recently vacated by Sergio Aguero.
The fee surpasses the £89m Manchester United paid to re-sign midfielder Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016.
"City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world," said Grealish.
"It's a dream come true to be part of this club."
Manager Ange Postecoglou earned his first win at the fourth attempt as Celtic overcame FK Jablonec in a goal-laden Europa League qualifier.
Postecoglou's men created a succession of chances, but their defensive frailties were again exposed as they were pegged back from 2-0 and 3-1 up after Liel Abada, Kyogo Furuhashi and James Forrest had netted.
However, Ryan Christie's diving header restored Celtic's two-goal cushion after Nir Bitton failed to clear Tomas Malinsky's effort in a frantic finish.
Ultimately, it gave Celtic a handsome lead to take into the second leg in Glasgow next Thursday, with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar awaiting the winners of the tie in the play-off round.
Half of all government spending on computers is dedicated to keeping old systems going, a report has found.
The government spends £4.7bn a year on IT across all departments, and £2.3bn goes on patching up systems, some of which date back 30 years or more.
Labour said the situation showed Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove's "incompetence and failure to deliver".
The Cabinet Office said it was taking action to reduce the government's reliance on outdated technology.
The Cabinet Office report, called Organising for Digital Delivery, warns that government could end up spending between £13bn and £22bn over the next five years on obsolete systems.

A rare fish with human-like teeth has been caught in the United States.
A photo of the fish was shared on Facebook this week by Jennette's Pier, a fishing destination in Nag's Head, North Carolina.
It was identified as a sheepshead fish, which has several rows of molars for crushing prey. The fish appears to have been given its name due to its mouth looking like the mouth of a sheep.
The fish was reportedly reeled in by Nathan Martin, a regular on the pier.
Mr Martin said he had been hoping to catch a sheepshead fish when he came face-to-face with a "mouth full of teeth".
"It's a very good fight when you're fighting on the line, it's a really good catch, and it tastes very good," he told McClatchy News.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that whoever finishes above Manchester City will be crowned Premier League champions.
Before the new season United have spent £107m on England winger Jadon Sancho and France defender Raphael Varane.
City have responded by smashing the British transfer record in paying Aston Villa £100m for Jack Grealish.
Chelsea may go even higher to sign former United striker Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.
With City still hoping to get England captain Harry Kane to join them from Tottenham and Liverpool signing central defender Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig for £36m to play with fit-again Virgil van Dijk, Solskjaer feels the battle for major honours will be intense.
"This season coming up is one of the strongest Premier League seasons," he said.
"Of course it's been City and Liverpool fighting it out for a few years but I feel us and Chelsea have spent well and worked well and we should look at ourselves as potential challengers - but it's potential.
"You notice that there's big money being spent somewhere else and you have to keep up with the challenges.
"Anyone who ends up above last year's champions will be champions."
Varane is still to have his medical - and he and Sancho are yet to train with their new club.
Sancho will link up with the squad back at Carrington when United return from their training camp in St Andrews before Saturday's friendly with Everton at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer is relaxed about the situation but accepts neither may start the opening Premier League game at home to Leeds on 14 August.
"I need to see how they are," he said. "I can't see them being available for Everton but hopefully they will be ready to be on the bench [against Leeds]."
