Fallon Sherrock became the first woman to reach a televised PDC final but lost to three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen at the Nordic Darts Masters.

Sherrock produced an incredible comeback from 10-6 down to beat world number five Dimitri Van den Bergh 11-10 in the semi-final.

The 27-year-old Brit then led 6-3 in the final but eventually lost 11-7.

"I'm so proud of myself, especially to push Michael as much as I did," Sherrock said on ITV4.

"I can't even put into words how I was feeling [when I was 6-3 up]. I was shaking."

The victory in Copenhagen is Van Gerwen's 16th world series win and his first title in 10 months.

"I have waited so long for this win," the Dutchman said.

"Fallon played a phenomenal tournament. I think she played one of the best games of her life in the final."

As the crowd chanted his name, an increasingly emotional Van Gerwen said: "I have been through a really tough period and this means so much to me."

In 2020, Sherrock became to first woman to win a main-draw match at the PDC World Championships and was eventually beaten in the third round.

Former England striker and Tottenham's record goalscorer Jimmy Greaves has died at the age of 81.

Greaves began his career with Chelsea before spells at AC Milan, Spurs and West Ham.

He scored 44 goals in 57 games for England and was a member of the 1966 World Cup-winning squad.

He holds the record for most goals in the English top flight with 357, and scored 266 in 379 matches for Tottenham.

Greaves' 41 goals in 1960-61 remains a record in a season for Chelsea, and he also holds the Spurs record with 37 in 1962-63.

A Tottenham statement read: "We are extremely saddened to learn of the passing of the great Jimmy Greaves, not just Tottenham Hotspur's record goalscorer but the finest marksman this country has ever seen.

"Jimmy passed away at home in the early hours of this morning, aged 81."

Tottenham said Greaves possessed "immaculate ball control, great balance and such composure in front of goal that he rarely spurned an opportunity".

He scored a hat-trick on his Spurs debut against Blackpool in December 1961, in the FA Cup final win in 1962 and twice in the Cup Winners' Cup win in 1963 as they became the first British club to win a European trophy.

"Football will not see his like again," Spurs said.

Greaves is survived by his wife Irene, four children and 10 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Greaves scored 132 goals in 169 matches for Chelsea between 1957 and 1961 before moving to Milan.

Chelsea said they "mourn the loss of a truly remarkable player and one of our own".

He scored nine goals in 14 Serie A games for Milan, including on his debut, but did not settle in Italy and returned to London with Tottenham.

He left Spurs in 1970 to join West Ham before retiring at the end of the 1970-71 season at the age of 31.

The Hammers will hold a minute's applause before Sunday's Premier League game against Manchester United.

After retiring, Greaves moved into broadcasting and presented 'Saint and Greavsie', a football show with former Liverpool striker Ian St John, between 1985 and 1992.

Greaves suffered a minor stroke in 2012 and a severe stroke in 2015. He was awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list in 2020.

Greaves is fourth on the list of all-time England goalscorers, behind Wayne Rooney (53), Sir Bobby Charlton (49) and Gary Lineker (48).

He originally missed out on a 1966 World Cup winners medal because he was injured during the group stage.

After recovering, Greaves was left out of the starting XI for the final and his replacement, Sir Geoff Hurst, scored a hat-trick as England beat West Germany 4-2 after extra time.

The World Cup squad players and the families of manager Sir Alf Ramsey and other backroom staff were finally presented with medals in 2009.

England manager Gareth Southgate said his team will pay tribute when they play Hungary at Wembley on 12 October.

"Jimmy Greaves was someone who was admired by all who love football, regardless of club allegiances," said Southgate.

"Jimmy certainly deserves inclusion in any list of England's best players, given his status as one of our greatest goalscorers and his part in our 1966 World Cup success."

John Challis, best known for playing Boycie in BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses, has died aged 79.

His family said he died "peacefully in his sleep, after a long battle with cancer".

Co-star Sir David Jason paid tribute to Challis as a "a wonderful actor" and "a gentleman in the true sense of the word".

His character - unscrupulous second-hand car dealer Terrance Aubrey Boyce - was a firm favourite with comedy fans.

Challis starred in the show, alongside Sir David and Nicholas Lyndhurst, throughout its time on air from the first episode of 1981 right through to the final to 2003

The character - who was both a long-time former schoolmate and devious rival of Sir David's character Del Boy - was initially due to appear in just one scene, but the part grew in prominence as the series progressed.

In fact he was so popular with viewers that, when Only Fools and Horses ended its long run, the BBC developed a spin-off show following the continuing adventures of Boycie and long-suffering wife Marlene. It ran for four series.

Sue Holderness, who played Marlene, paid tribute to Challis as her "beloved friend".

"Marlene without Boycie - it's unthinkable," she said. "John Challis was my partner on screen and stage for 36 years and my beloved friend. RIP darling John. I will miss you every day."

In a statement, his family said: "He will always be loved for being 'Boycie' and leaves a great legacy of work that will continue to bring pleasure and smiles for many years to come.

"Be assured that in the future there will be an occasion to celebrate John's life - when everyone will be welcome to come along."

Challis happily played Boycie on screen for decades - and even adopted the persona in appearances in other entertainment shows, fan conventions and even in a video message this year advocating the wearing of face-coverings in public places to help fight Covid.

But he also showed his range as a Shakespearean actor when he performed in open-air performances of Richard III and a Midsummer's Night Dream that were staged in Regents Park in London in 1995, right at the height of the popularity of Only Fools and Horses.

More recently he played Monty Staines in ITV show Benidorm.

Actress Crissy Rock, who appeared alongside Challis in the show, said she was heartbroken.

She tweeted: "John you were a true gentleman and always so loving and supportive towards me. I am thinking of your family and close friends at this hard time. Rest well. Crissy xx"

Earlier this month, Challis cancelled a speaking tour due to ill-health.

He was due to appear in 30 scheduled dates, billed as an "intimate evening with John Challis", but had to cancel the tour after one date.

The actor was born in Bristol in 1942 but moved to south-east London with his parents when he was one.

Brighton's superb start to the Premier League season continued as they held off a late Leicester rally to move up to third place in the table.

The Foxes twice thought they had rescued a point in the closing stages but Ademola Lookman and Wilfred Ndidi both saw goals chalked off for Harvey Barnes straying offside.

Brighton bossed the opening hour but needed a controversial penalty to set them on their way, Neal Maupay scoring his third goal of the season from the spot after Jannik Vestergaard's handball.

Vestergaard argued a foul by Maupay led him to handle Shane Duffy's header but, after lengthy deliberations, referee Stuart Attwell awarded a spot-kick.

Danny Welbeck doubled Brighton's advantage early in the second period, glancing home a near-post header from Leandro Trossard's free-kick out wide.

Leicester finally sprang into life, Jamie Vardy halving the deficit by side-footing Youri Tielemans' first-time cross in from close range after a fine one-touch move.

But they were denied a point as Barnes was twice adjudged to have interfered with play when Lookman scuffed home from a corner and Ndidi headed in from another.

Defeat marked a third loss in five games for Leicester while Brighton registered their first Premier League victory over the Foxes in nine attempts since their promotion into the top flight four years ago.
