Three Rangers players - Calvin Bassey, Ryan Kent and James Tavernier- have been named in Uefa's Europa League team of the year.

But Eintracht Frankfurt have four after Wednesday's penalty shootout win over the Glasgow side in Seville.

Kevin Trapp, whose spot-kick save from Aaron Ramsey proved crucial, is named along with Rafael Santos Borre, whose goal cancelled out Joe Aribo's opener.

Centre-half Martin Hinteregger and midfielder Filip Kostic are included.

Although midfielder Aribo does not make Uefa's selection, Bassey and captain Tavernier, who was the tournament's top scorer with seven goals, are in defence with Ryan Kent on the wing.

David Moyes' West Ham United, who lost to Eintracht in the semi-final, have two of their players included - defender Craig Dawson and midfielder Declan Rice.

The other players involved are Leipzig pair Konrad Laimer and Christopher Nkunku.

Borussia Dortmund have sacked Marco Rose after one season as head coach.

After joining from Borussia Monchengladbach, Rose led Dortmund to second place in the Bundesliga, eight points behind champions Bayern Munich.

They were eliminated from both the Champions League and Europa League, and were knocked out of the German Cup by second-tier St Pauli.

Dortmund said they would discuss "the composition of the future coaching team in the coming days".

Rose was in charge for 47 games, winning 27 and losing 16.

"This day is not an easy one for any of us, because the mutual respect among each other was, is and remains great," said Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke.

"After a season that was unsatisfactory for various reasons, we had to realise that we didn't get the most out of our opportunities in many areas."

Dortmund were knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage - finishing behind Ajax and Sporting Lisbon - and were eliminated from the Europa League by Rangers.

"Despite a difficult season with many imponderables, I was convinced of our path," Rose said.

"During our conversation I got the impression that the 100% conviction of all those responsible is no longer there."

Singer Sam Ryder has taken second place in the UK singles chart, a week after he claimed the runner-up spot at the Eurovision Song Contest.

His song, Space Man, was in a battle with Harry Styles to be this week's number one after his valiant performance for the UK on Saturday.

But Styles narrowly won out to claim his seventh week in a row at the top.

By reaching number two, Ryder has scored the highest chart placing for a UK Eurovision entry since 1996.

That was the year when Gina G reached the top spot with Ooh Ahh… Just A Little Bit.

Andreas Nikolaus "Niki" Lauda (22 February 1949 – 20 May 2019) was an Austrian Formula One driver and aviation entrepreneur. He was a three-time F1 World Drivers' Champion, winning in 1975, 1977 and 1984, and is the only driver in F1 history to have been champion for both Ferrari and McLaren, two of the sport's most successful constructors.

Having emerged as Formula One's star driver amid a 1975 title win and leading the 1976 championship battle, Lauda was seriously injured in a crash at the 1976 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring during which his Ferrari 312T2 burst into flames, and he came close to death after inhaling hot toxic fumes and suffering severe burns. He survived and recovered sufficiently to race again just six weeks later at the Italian Grand Prix. Although he lost that year's title – by just one point – to James Hunt, he won his second championship the year after, during his final season at Ferrari. After a couple of years at Brabham and two years' hiatus, Lauda returned and raced four seasons for McLaren between 1982 and 1985 – during which he won the 1984 title by half a point over his teammate Alain Prost.

Influential US sportswriter and reporter Roger Angell, often described as the poet laureate of baseball, has died at the age of 101.

As a journalist for the New Yorker over six decades, he covered the game in a fresh and innovative way that influenced generations of writers.

But he disliked the poetic accolade, saying that he was a reporter who wrote from a fan's perspective.

His peers hailed him for making the connection between sport and society.

Whether it was describing a particular team as "a troupe of gazelles depicted by a Balkan corps de ballet" or referring to the "habitual aura of glowering intensity" of a favourite pitcher, Roger Angell's colourful language brought his reports to life, especially in his regular end-of-season essays.

"I think the real fans are the fans of terrible teams, because they know what good baseball is and they know how far their own players fall short," he said in an interview in 1982.

"The rallying cry that has always struck me as so poignant and beautiful is, 'Come on, you bum!' which means, 'We know you're no good but we want to win.'"
