The lure of Portugal for a Brazilian/South American in general is great. Plus they haven't got the work permit issues the UK has.

Porto, as one of Portugals glamour clubs, gives them a great advantage. Sporting Lisbon also have a great history in this respect.

No idea Nan bread, just copied and pasted them from a site. It's staggering and like kinsang said, 'what are they doing with all this transfer money?' - They definitely don't see any of it on the field!

They just buy players from Southern America who are above average at a very young age, knowing they will more than likely become class players.

They do not require work permits and it is very easy for Southern American players to adapt to the Portuguese lifestyle as it is very similar to their own.

If you ask me then their work permit laws will give them a huge advantage when FFP is introduced.

And on top of that their wages are very well controlled. Got a great setup.

They do buy in bulk though. The ones that do well do very well. But for every one that does well there's one that doesn't make.

Didn't they get a new stadium in 2003 for Euro2004, that was probably of significant cost and they also built a big complex for their basketball team too.

Wonder how many of those deals went through Jorge Mendes? Dude must be loaded.

Benfica have done ok lately too...

Javi Garcia, Di Maria, Luiz, Coentrão etc

Porto are the kings though... Each year i think they'll struggle... and a new gem appears. Benfica seem to sell without much new coming through and pay the price in league and CL success.

Jorge Mendes is filthy rich. Have you seen the list of his clients on his website!?

Stunning.... He should just make Jorge Mendes FC, with Mourinho at the helm. Would win the lot (especially with Bebé as the striker)

Where the money goes? Easy. Referee's back pocket and offshore accounts.

This isn't a conspiracy, it's the truth and widely known. Under Pinto da Costa (current Porto president) they have won 90% of their history. It's not just a coincidence.

They have all been trialled, docked points, but never relegated.

Their money is eaten in the inside, aka corruption.

Their basketball team is no more because of lack of funds, wage problems in other areas and also struggled to get a B team for the Segunda Liga.

Regarding Falcao, it was a done deal to Benfica but Porto swooped in last minute. Well, this could be paper talk but so many of their players are first linked with us.

Although we did let go of Mourinho / Deco / Maniche etc.

stingyu voyeur arsene wenger must think porto how dare they outsell me with profits and win stuff, I can do it too one day arsene wenger must say to himself. The only thing his methods has done is get arsenal a new stadium with its own emirates trophy.

Falcao was offered to villa before going to Porto but in his infinite wisdom mon at the time saw heskey as a better purchase

posted on 14/12/12

And some people wanted MON to be England's coach. MON is over rated. He does well at the level of club he is at.

And they've still got Moutinho, Martinez and Rodriguez who could all go for a total of 90 million

Porto are probably the most prominent case in recent years, but Ajax and PSV have done very good business with a lot of players in the past.

Here's a list of the top 25 transfers in Dutch football, but the list goes back further in time, and off the top of my head includes players like Van Basten (Ajax), Gullit (PSV), Romario (PSV), Cruyff (Ajax), Neeskens (Ajax)...

I imagine the clubs made a healthy profit on most of those.
