I'm just gonna weigh in on this PJS, a player is classed as homegrown from the club if he has played for an English or Welsh team for 3 years before he turns 21, so yes Fabregas would be classed as a homegrown player, as he signed at 15. Just like Messi does for Barcelona.

If a team sign a player before he's turned 18 and nurture him in to a top class player, that would make me consider him homegrown to our club. I'm not too concerned with the list of players mentioned above and which are classed as homegrown (all of them from glancing), but you seem to be confusing homegrown with local.

PJH there are a few that it's really not worth having on there - londontopboy really is on the cusp of getting cut - he/she/it really doesn't add anything of ANY value to a thread. Even muppets like you are entertaining on the odd occasion

Didi/PJH that's the discussion i didn't want to get into - maybe the topic for a new thread?

You seem to be following the UEFA rules on homegrown etc. However even if they were at GP then I would not say they were home grown.

If that's the case then I'm out

No way I'm getting in to an argument about the semantics of using the official UEFA term or whether it means something different entirely.

Its not an argument, its a discussion.

I believe that players who have been at other clubs are not home grown, you dont. We then put across our points and the call each other RS or Bitters

I agree. I do not believe Insua, Ayala and suso are home grown. Just my humble opinion. Cut me is entitled to his

Debate/Argument/Shakesperean-quasi-homoerotic-flirting, whatever you want to call it, there's too many definitons that need clarifying for this one and I'm planning on making a quick dart from work to go drinking so no can do

As I said it's differing opinions. Golf time for me, adios!

In my book, home grown = joined the youth team without having been on the books of another pro club. Place of origin is not an issue, as the club have developed the player from the outset.

Again, just my opinion.

NO I want to be Statler! Will we ever agree on anything!

Anyway the original point was that toplondonclub's comment on us not developing homegrown talent was complete bunkum - and I think that has been proven!

Is this the most number of replies EVER? !

the problem with Liverpool's talent coming through is that they are not very good. Flanagan, kelly, Spearing and the other full back are all very average players who aren't premier league quality. Everton have proper quality coming through like Rodwell, Barkley, Gueye who are premier league quality. I just dont see how Liverpool fans can think that they are back amongst the elite, when they have a worse squad than they started last season with. No Torres, no Mascherano.... but instead Carroll and Downing. the mind boggles

You only needed to Watch he game tonight to see why Jenny does not think the youth players are good enough and why he has spent 100m strengthening his squad.
