Cracking appointment!!

He managed to get Brum relegated while pursuing a relatively worthless Cup run. He would have got Villa down if they hadn't got rid. We have a make shift defence, changing the manager will not change that.
Ayala get's himself sent off and that's SOD's fault.

I despair what ever some of you lot are smoking must be really good. With SOD who had his fault's we had a chance of the playoffs. Now? mid table. Terrible appointment. Gutted.

This WILL be a great appointment! Mcleish was NEVER gona win over the Villa fans due to his previous managerialship at Brum. Meanwhile Lambert was viewed as a god when he turned up at Villa Park since then dire performances and inconcistent games like Liverpool! Did Mcleish ever lose 8-0? Then follow it up with a 4-0 hammering? No! Look at Spurs shots at goal the other night it couldve/shouldve been another 8-0 drubbing! But the owner wont spend for Lambert and he did for Mcleish?

Bent, Ireland,Nzogbia infrequent starters at Villa yet far and away 3 of their best players!!!!

I'm with the OP. Not sure it's got anything to do with Scottishness but this is the right appointment at the right time for NFFC. I liked SOD, and thought he would have gotten us up eventually, but he was blatantly learning as he went along, and was making too many mistakes. AM has great experience, and will hopefully be the person to take us the final step this season.

"Who cares if we play hoof football?"

It will be nice to watch for the first few weeks when you pick up results and you have that feeling of not losing, but serioulsy, it drains any energy and excitement you have from you and you will soon be hating the style your team plays.

He said good football managers not a good national team you twerps. Have a look at the list of most successful British managers and there are plenty of Scots. Ferguson, Shankley, Dalglish etc.

None of which would be capable of managing a provincial team to titles....Twerp.

Yeah sure, of course not. So only English managers are capable of that? You probably don't realise that Ferguson won the title and A European trophy with Aberdeen. But then you're clearly ill informed.

You'll have to explain Calderwood to me.

Its all well and good harping on about AM at Villa and nearly getting them relegated, Villa have been on the slide for sometime now, things have not improved under Lambert. Give the gaffer a break, I'm sure he knows what is expected of him and the backlash he could get. Well used to that when he went from Brum to Villa.

err how can they play if they are injured,, apart from ireland but hasnt done much when he's had the chance... villa are forced to play basically their youth side right now... with dunne, vlaar, nzogbia, bent, agbohnlahor all injured... and thats just the older players.. missing a few other players too due to injury.

despite recent heavy losses villa thrashed an inform norwich 4-1 at carrow road and went to anfield and won 3-1.... that would never have happened under mcleish.. villa will start playing again once we get some experience back in the team instead of playing nothing but youngsters like it is right now.

Are we really stooping low enough that the only positive we can find is his Scottishness. Jesus wept.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that you can't go wrong with a Scotch manager. Ask the supporters of teams managed by Tommy Docherty, Colin Calderwood, Billy Bremner, Darren Ferguson, Graeme Souness, Steve Kean, Ally Mcleod and Gary McCallister if you don't believe me. I truly believe that in time McLeish will be worthy of being added to that list.

Er, i think you'll find that the word 'Scotch' refers to a alcoholic drink mate...just keeping you right...

What about Scotch pancakes then?

Not to mention broth and eggs.

"Scotch is an adjective meaning "of Scotland". "Scotch" if applied to people is widely considered pejorative."

So I sort of got it right, then.

Vidal - I think the word you're looking for is 'Scottish'.

Silly little lamb.

Dearie me, Sheepy! Can't you read the post above your own? "Scotch" is perfectly acceptable.

I'm just being ever so slightly pejorative, is all. I really think you have bigger things to be concerned about right now, haven't you?

Cheers mate!...Vidal, Scotch egg is actually a modern abbreviation of 'scotched' egg, which is it's true name. Scotching meat involves hacking it to either tenderise, or roughly mince, which refers to the sausage meat surrounding the egg. Something that is scotched is now generally regarded as being coated in breadcrumbs and fried, too.

And it has nothing to do with Scotland, it was invented by London Company Fortum & Mason

In the north of England and in Scotland, Scotch is not used outside fixed expressions such as Scotch whisky. The use of Scotch for Scots or Scottish is otherwise felt to be incorrect, esp when applied to people

To Scotch - to mince up, to hack about.

Pretty apt really. Bring on the 'beautiful game'.

Bubblebhoy

I do actually know all that! The best man at my wedding is of the same persuasion, and I regularly refer to him as "Scotch" in order to raise his ginger hackles.
