I reiterate: Luis Suarez does not do apologies, contrition or allocution.
---
Ferdinand's hardly Mr Contrition - I believe his response to people criticising his choc-ice tweet was along the lines of "Stop gettin ya knickers in a twist".
Anyway, as many column inches as his tweet may have generated, I don't think anyone could try and say it's going to haunt him.
I think most people would agree Rio is a tube. He makes me cringe most of the time. Any problems or issues he has had have all been his own doing.
I think it's simply the fact that, for the most part, he keeps himself to himself and doesn't attract attention.
You rarely see him screaming in the referees face, arguing with the opposition, diving, making statements in the press.
------------------------
I don't get it. Because he is a quiet man, its fine for him to recklessly tackle opponents for 20 years and for commentators to laugh it off. SO what you;re saying is thatif Suarez was sheepish and didn;t attract attention, its fine.
This isn't a dig at Scholes by the way, he's a great player, this is a more a dig at the media who choose to ignore certain things like the Scholes tackles.
Rio got a ban and whilst the reason for his ban spun many a theory, let's not forget he has not been found guilty of any drug taking and he has not even been indicted.
=====================
Most drug cheats are rarely caught red handed but experts know their tricks hence why the drug cheat Ferdinand got banned. Armstrong also never got caught but I'm sure you called him a cheat.
Winston, to employ the op's vernacular he was presenting the culmination of his cogitations as facts rather than opinions.
Armstrong also never got caught but I'm sure you called him a cheat.
----------------
I didn't. At least, not whilst he was under investigation and even when the gallery noises were getting louder.
I only called Armstrong a cheat when there is irrefutable evidence that he was - something you'd do heed to learn.

there is a difference in the two cases. It seems Armstrong willing tried to beat the testing system. Rio did not - probably because he wouldnt have been smart enough

-----------------------------------
These were not mere 'cogitations'. These are things Suarez has done, in the eyes of the world and the media. I do not profess to be privy to his personal life.
Luis Suarez might be a limber Morris dancer in his private life or family man of unimpeachable character in his personal life - i do not know.
His actions on the pitch, however, are there for all to see and evaluate.
FatJanMolby (U4297)
I didn't say it was fine.
I was giving you an explanation as to why I think some players get more negative attention from the media than others.
Surely you can see that?
I only called Armstrong a cheat when there is irrefutable evidence that he was - something you'd do heed to learn.
=====================
It's difficult to prove when he probably ran to drug specialist to remove samples from his system. The probability is quite high.
These are things Suarez has done, in the eyes of the world and the media.
----------------------
Yes FSB, Suarez, a man surrounded in a mist of darkness and evil, once got two yellow cards in one game...one was for dissent. The evil man. I've also heard that he has no shadow.
After being called a serial diver by the opponent's manager, he scored a goal and as part of his celebration he took a theatrical dive in front of the man who who accused him. What a vile human being this man is.
He once, in a heated dressing room, had an argument with a fellow player. What a disgusting man this Suarez. An argument with another man in a dressing room at half time!! Disgraceful.
He is also the first man in the history of football to feign injury, or pretend he was a little more injured than he actually was. What a fiend.
FatJanMolby (U4297)
Can you really not see why Suarez is disliked by opposition fans?
Really?
Can you really not see why Suarez is disliked by opposition fans?
Really?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
i will answer this in the case of united and Rooney.
Yes i can see why Rooney is hated - he does controversial things which annoy people and sometimes united fans like myself. He gets booed at every away ground united go to for those reasons.
Is all a case of taking the rose tinted spectacles off.
The image of him grinning broadly and the way he smashed the ball into the net yesterday after brazenly handling the ball yesterday and his spirited celebration yesterday was in very bad taste.
---------------------------
When did this happen?
FatJan, so in your honest opinion, Luis Suarez is a shining example of the beautiful game and is entirely blameless?
Can you really not see why Suarez is disliked by opposition fans?
Really?
-------------------
Of course I can but a lot of people take it too far. The reaction to the handball is unbelievable. The examples that the OP uses - two yellow cards, a theatrical goal celebration, a dive, feiging an injury, a handball, and then to say thaa he is a stain upon the game is a ridiculous thing to say. The bite I can't defend, but Defoe did a similar thing a few years, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't pilliored in the same way Suarez has been. Bales has had more cards for diving than any other player in the league including Suarez and yet because he does it sheepishly he gets away IT.
Its a massive overreaction. The faux indignation is laughable.
FatJanMolby (U4297)
I agree it's an overreaction.
But, what people are trying to explain is that the overreaction (or fair reaction to some) is based on Suarez' reputation - not the one off incident.
He has a reputation, like some others in the game... and so when something happens like yesterday, in a televised game, against minnows etc. it shouldn't be a huge surprise that the reaction has been as it has.
Do you see what I mean?
I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm just trying to give reasons for it.
I was giving you an explanation as to why I think some players get more negative attention from the media than others.
--------
So you admit that the only reason Suarez is criticised is because he isn't a quiet man like Scholes ?
Funny enough, Suarez is one of the more nervous footballers, not doing interviews (like Scholes), a family man and those who work with him say it's a pleasure
he problem with the Suarez issue is that it snowballed and neutrals have been sucked in
Red Cog
Can you tell us exactly what Suarez should apologise, or show contrition for?
Should he apologise for the two yellows earnt years ago?
Should he apologise for falling out with a team mate?
Should he apologise for biting an opponent, I think he already did. But should he apologise to the people of Britain, for something he did in Holland?
Should he apologise for the Evra incident? Again he did, but for his reasons not directly to Evra.
Should he apologise for his dive against Stoke? Fair cop it was a dive. I don't see Bale showing contrition.
Should he apologised to Fulhams fans for giving them the finger? Would you after receiving dogs abuse?
Should he apologise to David Moyes? It was Moyes that antagonised, and even he laughed off Luis' celebration.
Should he apologise to Rodwell. For being caught on the shin, and the ref deciding to send him off?
Or should he apologise to Mansfield for playing to the whistle?
Or, perhaps, in your eyes he should apologise for being Luis Suarez? A competitive, antagonistic sod on the pitch. A charity supporting family man off it.
he problem with the Suarez issue is that it snowballed and neutrals have been sucked in
--------------------------------
Why is it so difficult to just admit that Luis Suarez might be the architect of his circumstance and the world is not out to get him?
Admittedly, the glare of the media seems to be on him a lot but Suarez is not a nobel-peace prize winner for goodness sake.

==================================
It's part of it.
There are quite a few things that Suarez has done, or still does, that Scholes doesn't do... hence the different reactions.
Same thing with Ronaldo and Scholes!

nobody is claiming otherwise.
The problem is that neutrals won't ever say that he's targetted or treated differently

Not a very fair way to judge a footballer
Should he apologised to Fulhams fans for giving them the finger? Would you after receiving dogs abuse?
-------
i disagree with this one.
players receive abuse all the time, but not all players flip off the crowd like suarez did.
player abuse is wrong, but as long as it doesnt go too far, i.e. racism, homophobic chants etc then these players are paid a hell of a lot of money to put up with this to a degree, because its part and parcel of the game.
