Aston Villa 2 - 2 Sunderland
Lavezzi ----------- Sneijder, Pedro
Higuain

Good start to the season with both of the sides went out looking for the win. Villa were more dominant in the first half and scored just before half-time with Lavezzi's sweet strike. After the break, Sunderland quickened their pace and equalised early with Sneijder firing low. The visitors took the lead with Pedro's clever run got him a clear run and he calmy placed it low. Villa then piled on the pressure and got their deserved equaliser with Di Maria cutting back his shot and Higuain caught it sweet to the roof of the net.
----
Chelsea 1 - 2 Stoke
Mata ------------ Neymar, Ribery

Both Neymar and Ribery may have got the goals but it was Ibra that assisted them both with great hold-up play and brilliant through-balls for both goals. Chelsea penetrated the midfield but they were unstuck with Stoke defence who held incredibly strong. However, a piece of magic from Mata gave them motivation for a comeback. Mata nutmegged Busquets and then he wrong-footed Puyol and then lobbed the keeper. However Stoke held strong and got their win.
---
Everton 1 - 1 Newcastle
Nani ----------- Mueller

A game with very littke chances but the away side drew first blood. Mueller combined with Kroos and Muller lashed home the ball from 15 yards. The game was looking a little flat up until Nani picked up the ball from 40 yards, side-stepped Gustavo and smashed home from 30 yards. Unstoppable strike.
---
Fulham 1 - 1 Man Utd
Falcao -------- Ronaldo

Fulham fought hard from an early goal to equalise and to be honest, they deserved it as they fought as a team. Early on Van Persie was fouled outside the box and Ronaldo stepped up and piledrived it home. Utd were dominant but had less joy penetrating the Fulham defence as T Silva and Hummels marshalled the defence very well. Falcao equalised late on when Nasri crossed low and Falcao turned instantly and shot early to surprise the keeper who dived late.
-----
Liverpool 1 - 3 Man City
Suarez ---------- Messi (2) Aguero

A very attacking Liverpool side were made to pay early on when they lost the ball. Ozil and Silva combined to set up Messi for the opener. The same pair did the same for Aguero. After the break, Liverpool pulled a goal back from Iniesta feeding Suarez and poked home. City looked rattled but held on and when Liverpool piled forward, they were vulnerable to an attack and thats exactly what Aguero had in mind as he raced clear and unselfshly passed to Messi for his 2nd.

Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham
Podolski : Reus

What an opening to the season: a frenetic north London derby. Arsenal haven't made too many changes and are still weak in some areas (LB and RW) but the midfield pairing of Ramires & Wilshere is very effective in my opinion. Podolski is on fire recently too and scored the opener with a beautiful curling free-kick. Spurs' front 4 and sitting midfield are strong and nicely balanced, but their defence could do with strengthening. Reus was on hand though to cancel out Podolski's opener with a stunner of his own late on.

=====

Aston Villa 1-0 Sunderland
di Maria

Villa for me could be dark horses this season as they have a very strong, yet understated, first eleven. Rooney has gone about his business slyly again this year and has created another top team with only Lavezzi and Given really standing out, although both are capable players. This is taking nothing away from Sunderland, who have done well also with their resources, but they are crying out for a top centre-back, which Villa have in both Ramos & Chiellini. Their defensive solidarity allowed Higuain & di Maria to torment Sunderland, the latter scoring the only (albeit deflected) goal.

=====

Everton 1-1 Newcastle
Huntelaar : Cavani

These two teams cancel each other out perfectly which led to a rather inevitable draw between them both, but the game was still an interesting one. Everton have also gone quietly about assembling this team and, whilst not as star-studded as last season, they are definitely strong enough to take points from other teams this season. The same can be said for Newcastle, whose German influence is there for all to see. I question their defensive solidarity, however, and Gotze is better than Kroos for me so the latter should be sacrificed. Both teams have done well though so far.

=====

Fulham 0-0 Man Utd
n/a

A surprising no-score draw today given both of these sides are significantly stronger going forward than they are at the back. Tranquil has a team with plenty of individual stars such as Ronaldo, van Persie and Rooney, but there are areas that could do with improvement for the benefit of the whole team. The same cannot be said for BVB's Fulham, who have balance throughout and only one or two potential weaknesses (LB and CM).

=====

Liverpool 2-3 Man City
Iniesta, Suarez
Fabregas, Ozil, Messi

Man City had just about enough to get the better of Liverpool but against the top teams they will get found out. Liverpool are by no means weak but their defence were not capable of withstanding the ridiculous torrents of pressure applied on them by City's attack which, when you consider Yaya Toure is the least offensive non-defender, puts it into perspective. Iniesta and Suarez both found holes in City's team though and punished them, but Messi and Silva terrorised their respective full backs which proved the downfall for Liverpool in the end.

Arsenal 0 - 1 Tottenham
-; Reus

The new season begins with a win for Tottenham, but not a convincing one. Both teams still need strengthening, and it was Arsenal's key weakness with Gibbs at LB that showed. The talented youngster Reus gave Gibbs a torrid time today, and collected the only goal of the game with a very clever run and finish form the wing.
-------------------------------------------
Aston Villa 0 - 0 Sunderland
- ; -

Villa and Sunderland look to be two evenly matched sides. It showed today, Villa with Khedira and Alonso sitting deep with Pirlo infront of them were left wanting in attack, with the forwards coming up against Sunderlands back four. Howedes and Evans deserve credit for the clean sheet, two superb CB's who played well together.
-------------------------------------------
Everton 1 - 2 Newcastle
Gomez; Kroos, Cavani

Everton didn't look like the home side today unfortunately. Newcastle's midfield ran the game and it was Kroos who picked up a poor clearance before whipping it into the net. Cavani, perhaps a less fashionable forward than Falcao or RVP proved just a deadly yet again, and tucked in his first for the season soon after. Everton however were never out whilst they had Gomez and Fellaini to aim for, and it was one of those long balls that was nodded on by the Belgian for Gomez to run on to that gave them a consolation goal late on.
-------------------------------------------
Fulham 1 - 1 Manchester United
Kagawa; Ronaldo

Two teams who should be challenging for the title this year came up against each other early on. Ex-united player Kagawa proved a constant thorn in United's side as he drifted across the final third, knitting Fulham's moves together, and he got a deflected goal early on to send Fulham ahead. United collected soon after, and when Evra dispossessed Robben and started a jinking run forward he found Ronaldo who powered a shot through Buffon to draw United level.
-------------------------------------------
Liverpool 1 - 1 Manchester City
Suarez; Ozil

Another draw drew a fairly quiet opening day to a close. City have got a wonderfully balanced side, but with the ageing Cesar and Cahill at the back they aren't all that solid at the back. Suarez focused on this weakness, and eventually succeeded in wrong footing Cahill before slipping the ball into the back of the net. City however, were never out of it, and pressed forward, the mecurial talents of Messi, Ozil and Silva opened up space and time for City, and it was Ozil in the centre who restored City to parity and secured them a point mid way through the second half.

Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham
Terry : Bale
Two very evenly matched teams that couldn't be separated on the day. Arsenal enjoyed plenty of possession however Tottenham had the better chances counter attacking constantly through the pace of Bale and Reus down the flanks eventually led to an equaliser.

Chelsea 0-1 Stoke
Ibra
Chelsea have some great players but the defence needs improving. Stoke are up there as one of the best sides in the league and a solitary strike from Ibra earned them the win.

Everton 2-2 Newcastle
Gomez (2) : Alba, Kroos
Arguably the best game of the night as both attacks filled their boots. Newcastle dominated throughout yet a resilient Everton side pegged them back on both occasions.

Fulham 1-1 Man Utd
Robben : RVP
Another great game as both sides showed what they were capable of and that bodes well for the season ahead. A late RVP goal cancelled out a fine solo effort from Robben early on.

Liverpool 0-2 Man City
Messi, Aguero
City's attacking approach helped them today as they were able to target a vulnerable Liverpool defence with Messi and Aguero putting them to the sword.

Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham
Walcott - Bale

A hard fought contest between two teams that both have room for improvement. Walcott latched onto a poor Subotic back pass, rounded the keeper and slotted into the empty net. A late Bale free kick to equalise was the only highlight for the Spurs, who only mustered 2 shots on target.

Aston Villa 0-0 Sunderland

A draw at Villa Park as neither team managed to finish the chances that they created. Torres was guilty of missing 2 good chances, but Pirlo putting a penalty over the bar will surely sting for Villa.

Chelsea 0-2 Stoke
Ribery, Modric OG

A comfortable victory for Stoke who stroked the ball around elegantly all day, and struck when they needed to. Ribery's corner somehow managed to slip through Cech's fingers and into the net. Only 5 minutes later, Modric turned into his own goal from a low Neymar cross.

Everton 1-2 Newcastle
Fellaini - Cavani x2

Newcastle came back from a goal down to win this one. Fellaini scored with a header from a corner early on, but this was cancelled out only 2 minutes later as Cavani tried his luck from 25 yards. Cavani scored the winner in the 85th minute from the spot after Jones hacked down Gotze.

Liverpool 0-2 Man City
Messi, Ozil

Simple work at Anfield for Man City, and in truth it should have been more. Messi opened the scoring after beating 3 of the Liverpool defenders before slotting through the keepers legs. Ozil added a second from just outside the box, a curling effort giving the keeper no chance. Liverpool are going to have to bolster this defence to avoid being in a relegation battle this season.

arsenal 1-1 spurs
cazorla
bale

spurs managed to hold arsenal for a draw in the first match of the new season. an original looking arsenal side took the lead through santi cazorla's header from close range after good work by theo walcott on the right to beat his man. spurs hit back, however, with bale beating sagna for pace and shooting low in the bottom corner to equalise.

chelsea 1-1 stoke
mata
ibra

stoke were unlucky not to take all three points from stamford bridge as a tough chelsea side dug in and held on for a point. stoke took the lead early on through zlatan's strike from the edge of the box. they were denied twice by cech who was on top form, and they got the luck they needed in front of the stoke goal, when baines' slip allowed mata to slide the ball home after beating valdes.

everton 1-1 newcastle
gomez
muller

both teams were satisfied with a point and did not threaten each other's goal in the last few minutes. gomez scored with a bullet header and soon after muller made it 1-1 from a free-kick.

fulham 1-2 united
falcao
rvp, ronaldo

united's attacking prowess was too much for fulham to contain and van persie and cristiano ronaldo scored from fantastic long-range strikes to give the away side a two goal lead. fulham grabbed a consolation in the last minute.

liv 2-2 mancity
iniestax2
aguero, ozil

liverpool hit back twice to deny manchester city a winning start to the new season. aguero and ozil were put through by messi and both the striker and midfielder didnt miss their chances. however liverpool also displayed their attacking intent and iniesta confirmed his reputation as the world's best midifelder by scoring two outstanding goals in the space of a few mins to level the score.

Arsenal 0 - 1 Tottenham
-------------- Villa

Not too much in this one with both sides having strengths and areas for improvement. These generally balanced out for me but up front Spurs have the especially with Eto'o no longer in one of the top leagues. Small difference but it made the difference.

Aston Villa 0 - 0 Sunderland

No goals and no substitutes for the home side otherwise they may have nicked this. Other sides have spent time and money compiling as good a bench as possible so not bothering will be marked down by me. Villa are marginally stronger for me and Sunderland need to improve in certain areas but their strength from the bench earned them a point today.

Chelsea 1 - 1 Stoke
Mata --------- Ibra

Stoke have a great first team but the worst populated bench I have ever seen on one of these leagues.. All freebies, worth diddly squat to the side. So despite dominating the opening hour of the match, lack of options from the bench cost them as Chelsea equalised late on to snatch a point. They are strong as well.

Everton 0 - 1 Newcastle
------------- Kroos

Newcastle has a nice side indeed. Heavy Bayern and German influence and it works. Defence is solid enough for the weaker sides but will need improvement for the stronger ones. Everton have a mixture of some very good players and weaker ones. Definite need for improvements there to compete with the top sides.

Both need more bench players.

Fulham 1 - 1 Man Utd
Falcao ------ Ronaldo

Great defence for Fulham plus one of the hot strikers. I am not a fan of either of their wide men who are too inconsistent for me. Kagawa also is still to totally convince me. Utd have a nice side overall. Rooney is wasted wide but the quality they have will win them points. Just one today though.

Aston Villa 2-1 Sunderland
(Higuain, Pirlo)(Sneijder)

Aston Villa edged this mediocre opening start to the season, but it was the Black Cats who took the lead after Torres' shot was initially blocked and Dutch maestro Wesley Sneijder swept home the rebound. The home side responded quickly though, and it was the magician Andrea Pirlo who crafted the comeback, first slipping in Gonzalo Higuain for a routine finish, before curling a trademark free kick beyond the helpless 'keeper.

Chelsea 0-1 Stoke City
(Baines)

It's exciting days to come this season for The Potters under new manager Hodgey, who has created a wonderful team. However, it turned out to be a typical game for a Stoke fan, with minimal chances created and just the one goal. The one goal fell to Leighton Baines, with the left back smashing in a 25 yard free kick.

Everton 1-1 Newcastle
(Nani)(Cavani)

Another close match, this time it turned out to be a case of sharing the spoils. It was the visitors who took the lead at Goodison Park, with Edinson Cavani pouncing after a mistake from the defender, whilst the inconsistent Nani produced one of his moments of magic, dribbling between and past three or four defenders before almost toe-poking his effort into the far corner.

Fulham 0-0 Man United

Not very often that we see United fail to score but that was indeed the case here; plenty of chances were created but the finishing from both teams was woeful.

Liverpool 1-1 Manchester City
(Gerrard)(Messi)

City's defence was the reason why they couldn't claim all three points here, and Liverpool's midfield seemed to dominate. The partnership in the middle of Gerrard and Iniesta was an effective one, and it was indeed Gerrard who opened the scoring at his beloved Anfield, with a late run into the box and a simple side footed tap in. It looked as if they were going to shock a strong City attack, but it was that man, Lionel Messi, who got things back on track in the last minute with a half volley on the edge of the area.
