Zaha for 15million? You can keep him!

I was at Ronaldo's debut, Bolton I think, he came on and was quality, was nice to see some flair at the club again.

As for Zaha, comparisons to Messi? You're bound to get shot down with such wild suggestions. To me he looks like every other promising winger, skilful, fast but cannot finish or play the final ball. Whilst his close control and quick feet look good, his dribbling style is very awkward, looks uncomfortable when he runs with the ball.

"So you are going to judge a player you have not even seen and say he is not worthy. Three names. Walcott, Bale and Ox-Chamberlain. These have played together far less than Zaha has and they went for big money moves and look at them now."

From memory, bale cost £10m and Walcott cost £5m. How is this in any way justification for Zaha costing £15m + add-ons?

"You lot have forgotten what Zaha did to your defence last season in the cup at Old Trafford, he made your defence look like Jackasses."

Did he score a hattrick while I wasn't looking? Did he set up a load of goals for his teammates? Are you honestly claiming that, based on that performance, he is worth £15-20m? Please bear in mind that the most United have EVER spent on ANY player is around £30m.

I accept that Palace fans know more about Zaha than we do but my opinion of him is based largely on what a mate of mine thinks of him - and he is a Palace fan and season ticket holder.

I asked him after that match against United whether he would be sorry to lose him and he said that he would personally carry him to any club that was willing to make a bid for him. His view was that he is an overrated showpony with no end product. When I pointed out that many used to say the same about Ronaldo, he simply laughed at the comparison.

I'm not saying he won't turn out to be a top player - I'm just saying that he has done nothing so far to justify the sort of transfer fee that people are talking about. And it seems that some of your own fans would emphatically agree.

Basically, I just don't believe that any player is worth 15-20m before they have achieved anything of note, no matter how talented they are.

Redmisty

Do you feel the same about Phil Jones?

To be honest I don't really think the fee will be £15 million + addons. That seems to be the paranoid figure thrown about by 'anti-Zaha' United supporters on here.

From all that i've read about it, it'll more likely be around £12 million including addons (eg £9 million + £3 million extras)

Remember too that the high price Palace want is because of how much he means to their lucrative promotion push so if we buy him and loan him back then we save some money on the deal because they still keep him for those important months.

And one more thing *does a Columbo style turn and finger wag*

Even £15 million isn't that bad when you take into account that if he turns out to be good (and United will have done their proper scouting on him) then his sell-on value is likely to be high. But again, I still think his fee will be lower.

remisty.

Nowhere have i said 'Zaha is kak' or something in that vein. Sure, i have being facetious in quasi-endorsing the 'English Obertan/Gervinho' moniker but i have been vociferous in stating i think we could/should be doing better than Zaha and also stated that whomever wants to buy Zaha -especially for the exorbitant fees bandied about - should think 'Caveat Emptor'!

posted on 17/1/13

Caveat Emptor indeed!

Rob,

I did feel the same way about the fee paid for Jones. However, Jones had completed a season in the top flight and showed his ability at the highest level every week. Can Zaha say the same?

if you are right and we get him for £9m + £3m or domething like that then I'd feel more comfortable about that. Part of my concern is this trend of quoting £20m every time United enquire about a player. The logic being that if United are interested then surely he must be worth at least £20m! (rolls eyes).

Zaha may go on to be worth £100m but that does not change the fact that he is not currently worth £15-20m. I don't believe in paying that much purely for potential, especially when I believe we are still waiting for the likes of Nani and Ando to fulfil their potential (5 years later), let alone the likes of Bebe.

For the amount that we spend on potential I think we could actually sign more proven quality - RVP being a case in point.

In sum, I have no problem with signing Zaha - I just don't think we need to break the bank to do so.

Well £10m has been rejected out of hand.

I hope you lot of over inflated ego's and opinions will get the hint.

Palace are not a breeding ground for lazy Premier teams to steal, there was a time when Man U could be proud of their acadamy, with some of the players they've developed over the years and rightly so, but not anymore.

You lot still seem to think that because your in a league higher than those teams in the football league, you have a god given right to poach and cream off any talent from those clubs and pay peanuts for them.

According The Guardian the sale will go through at 12million with Zaha along with two others (one being Powell) being loaned to Palace.

A deal like this seems more reasonable, but I still think we're better of with Isco or Strootman than signing Zaha.

Paper talk, the truth with Journalists is as rare as rockinghorse number 2s(site won't let me say what I want to say).

If Zaha signs 12m and we sign those two players I mentioned, than I'd won't be that upset. I don't mind getting English players, it's just that most of the time they are more limited than their foreign counter parts, an example is A.Young 16m and he is at best a squad player at somewhere at United. He is never worth that much and we were ripped off. I am sick of clubs charging us through the nose for average players.

Simple answer to that is:- go back to basics and start to bring through players from your acadamy, just like us, and like you used to do, they are your future, not poaching other clubs hard work.

My comment was a tongue in cheek way of telling you to put your petty handbag away.

I suppose I should have guessed you'd be too dumb and deluded to realise that.

I see education in South London leaves a lot to be desired.

redmisty your the dumb ass, check my profile.

As far as education is concerned your way out of order, I speak, write, and read 5 languages, yet you struggle with your own, and try to belittle me and everyone else, I really must have hit a raw nerve.

Think what you like Bilko.

The following was YOUR comment which I initially responded to with a joke about ugly kids.

"I hope you lot of over inflated ego's and opinions will get the hint."

I think you are the one taking it too seriously. Perhaps I am the one who struck a nerve. Are your kids particularly ugly or something?

If you don't see that my comment was tongue in cheek (and that yours was not) then it is valid to question your intelligence and/or education.

And since we only speak English here, I don't really care what other languages you speak. But thanks for sharing.

By the way, I checked your profile. What am I supposed to be looking for? I saw nothing of relevance.

Well you are obviuosly the one with reading and learning difficulties.

As the last time I looked at a map Steenbergen is in Holland as is Deurne in Holland, and are not England or even near South London.

Why you resort to insulting my children is beyond me, I could come back with a retort, but I won't resort to your gutter humour.

Listen, idiot. I';ve already tried explaining to you that the children comment was a joke. Your initial insult to which I responded was NOT a joke. I.e. you were offensive and I chose humour as a means of pointing this out. The rest of this debate is just coloured bubbles because clearly you like to dish out insults but are too precious to take any.

And I don't give a damn where you are from - Holland or the Moon - it doesn't prove you are any less of an idiot.

Yes like I said something abusive, "I hope you lot of over inflated ego's and opinions will get the hint." thats hardly an insult.

Your the idiot, you half wit, you said you speak English where you are, I have my doubts as you seem to be having a great deal of difficulty understanding what been said.

You started the insults with your ugly children snipe, and another member pulled you up for it, at least my kids might be ugly, unlike yours they won't have to live at the zoo in a cage.

He said we use English here, on the website. And you did start insulting people.

I am disappointed in the transfer. But since he has signed, I will give him my support when he plays for United.

redmisty posted an insult about my kids 10 posts before I told him he is a dumb ass, he was even pulled up by another poster(TUX) 8 posts prior to my retort.
