But that would require telling him from next season he'll be number one. Do you really think it would be wise to get rid of an experienced goalkeeper and bring in a number 1 who is inexperienced and untested?
If Barca really are serious about Reina, then we can buy Butland and send him back out on loan to Birmingham.
A lot can change in 6 months, who knows, Birmingham may get out of their little trouble by then and the asking price immediately shoots up to 15 million again.
£3.5 is a bargin if he comes good, we could do a deal for him to be there until the summer and if he's not number 1 next season guarantee he will be loaned to either to Brum or a premiership team that he will be 1st choice.
The long game.
3.5 mil hes worth the risk, buy him then just send him out on loan
Jack Butland is the new Richard Wright. He has been poor to average for Birmingham this season, and his reputation is based on half a season doing well in League 2.
The best thing for Liverpool would be to avoid him.
The best thing for Butland would be to find a half decent club where he will be given a chance to be number 1 without too much pressure or attention on him. Or stay at Birmingham.
Tempting to go for him but people have said he is far from the finished article and next season the aim is top 4 no question so we can't afford more keeper mistakes.
For me we should just try and keep Reina and by that German reserve keeper at Swansea who has been excellent and that's position 1 and 2 sorted
No because we would have already bought him for £3.5m! And maybe you could say that he'd be on a rolling loan deal until he will play for the first team. In other words he'd continue to play for Birmingham until we sell Reina

You could be right (no pun intended...) but there seem to be plenty of coaches who do rate him.
There don't appear to be a huge number of top quality goalkeepers that aren't at top clubs, trying to delevop a raw English talent for a (relatively) reasonable price seems like a perfectly reasonable strategy. He may not be ready now, but in 2/3 years who knows.
Kash you want us to buy a 34yo awful keeper? I follow Swansea as I used to live there, nobody rates him and are scared when Vorm isn't in goal.
Cob has he really been awful? He's been getting good reviews this season. Nothing wrong with the age being 34 for a backup keeper.
ter stegan, could probably get him at a good prce aswell
Kash
I have mates who are season ticket holders at the liberty, they really don't rate him that much, ok for a back up but then so is Jones, so no need. He is no better than Jones trust me.
Cobnot - I guess they know more than my armchair view
What do you guys think of Gulasci, he seemed decent for a while but seems to have stalled a bit in development. Should be out on loan somewhere for me?
Would love Ter Stegen he'll be one of the best keepers in the world soon.
I would take Butland for that price. People say he doesn't play that well but the goalkeeping position is an enigma. At such a young age he's going to look no where near as good as the experienced keepers, just look at De Gea. I think he's excellent just making poor keeping decisions and everyone slates him. A few years and both will shine.

We have to remember what happened to Carson and Kirkland too, they were a waste on money, Kirkland mainly to injuries.

-------------------------
i had high hopes for him, looked promising, if he can't get in front of Jones who most think is crap, then what good would sending Gulacsi out on loan do?
i don't think it will make any dif personally, so if he isn't going to make it here, we should get rid and bring in someone who might.
£3.5m is still a lot for a guy who has half a season in the Championship and is out of contract in 2 years.
Yes it will be peanuts if he goes on to prove as good as his hype, but is that likely?
We can't have him as number 1 next season, so why would he want to join us if he wants first team football?
A good young keeper should be a priority for us, but one who is either accepting of being a number 2 for now (if Reina is staying), or one who is ready now to be a number 1 from next season if Reina is going.
Butland does not fill either of those criteria.
The last time we signed a promising young keeper from the Championship to be number 1, it was David James, and the position of being Liverpool keeper was too much for him at that age.
There are not many young goalkeepers in the world who could cope with the pressure of being Liverpool keeper.
Could even put Chris Kirkland in the category of young keeper with potential risks that failed. (Of course injuries played a key part)
I'd prefer him to Victor Valdes anyway and knowing our luck with signings as good as Begovic is looking now he'd probably end up being cack for us.
At 3.5 i hope moyes doesn't come in and ruin another good young keeper. Just look at Ruddy go once he was set free.
Birmingham must be in trouble. They quote 8 in the summer.
Prefer Butland to Valdes?!
Looks like Stoke are in for Butland now.
I guess that means they know Begovic will be on his way soon.
