Do The Rangers fans still think it ......

I posted this last night but I'll post it again here:

From a football perspective the boycott was a disaster.

Firstly the players needed them.

Secondly the referee and assistants had no pressure on them. There was a few times I turned to the people I was with and said "that would have been a free kick if their fans were here" or something along those lines. There was one that really summed it up for me. I think it was Shiels had the ball, Gunning was tight behind him and for me probably bumped him over although Shiels went over easily. The referee gave nothing, the linesman kept his flag down. This was right in front of the empty Jerry Kerr stand. If that had been full and Rangers fans hanging over the edge screaming for a foul it would have been given.

I'm not saying their fans might have made them win, but it would have influenced the referee and his assistants and maybe helped them in the game.

I thought it was worth asking the question though.

Do you think they'll do it again or is that it?

I appreciate that there will be some Rangers fans who will never come back to Tannadice, but do you think there'll be another official boycott?

I see some of the Rangers forums are trying to get the people who went "named and shamed" and get them banned from Ibrox.

Barab - it was on one of the other threads on the Celtic board I think.

I definitely think it was worth asking the question

Doesnt matter if we had taken our fans, that performance would have been just the same.

Maybe some small minded factions wont be back, but this type of so called "football fan" will not be missed if thats what they decide to do.
I do wonder what good old Charlie Chuckles thinks about the whole boycott thing now !!!

The rangers fans that were there were being refferred to as 'scabs' by the fans who decided to boycott

Have a read of this:

The internet and forums can be brilliant but some of them can be used maliciously.

Sorry I don't agree if the fans would have turned up that can lift the players.

I am suprised that so many Rangers fans are calling time on Coisty, so the fans boycott the game and Rangers get taken to the cleaners by Dundee Utd, I mean think about it, teams need the fans to give them a lift and Saturday, that showed.

Yes Coisty is playing against part-timers and yes your football standards will drop, beacuse your not playing at that level.

Bottom line is keep boycotting SPL clubs then there is going to be one winner and it won't be Rangers

I agree, the fans would have made a big difference. I think it would have only been 2-0 instead of the 3-0 demolishing.

Jungle, McCOist has done a terrible job on the football side of things

Depends how it works long term.

Firstly, it did have a financial impact. You did not sell out the stadium, which im sure would have happened if we did not boycott. This would have been a game with a big draw for us, so would have taken more than our usual run of the mill SPL games of past.

Secondly, Dundee UTD offered lower than normal prices for a Rangers game to entice more folk in, resulting in higher numbers, but lower revenue.

More importantly though, if the boycott was a one off, then it has had a small impact, if it however continues for future games against Dundee United, the higher than normal numbers of Dundee Utd fans will most likely drop. Its easier to put on a show of defiance once, than over a prolonged period. This would result in a continued drop in revenue which would become more of an issue.

Mitre - although I agree with you in the sense that we would have made more money if the boycott hadn't happened, this is offset by two points.

Firstly, as I've said before, we don't budget for this game so therefore anything we make is a bonus. It's just not as big a bonus as it could have been.

Secondly, by getting through we've got the best draw we could have had for making money by getting Dundee at Dens. It's the tie of the round so will be first pick for tv, it'll sell out, we have no costs in terms of travelling or any stadium costs since it's away and I'm sure the tickets will be normal SPL prices. It's the perfect draw financially.

The impact of the boycott financially on United has not been the hammer blow some may have expected.

I do agree with your points about if it runs on though.

i said it was a joke to start with......
and i stick by it!

Thats the big point.

If its a continuous boycott it works. If its a single occurance, then it was basically pointless.

Only if Dundee Utd are continuously losing revenue where its rivals (say Dundee or Kilmarnock) can bank of a couple of games a season, then it makes sense. Otherwise, pointless.

I would definitely expect certain Rangers fans not to come back to Tannadice. That's there choice and I can understand it.

What I wouldn't understand is a targetting of one club over the others.

It worked perfectly in that united didn't make money from thousands of rangers fans

As for the scotzine article , it's written by a celtic fan who hates the rangers and makes no secret if it.
