"it's nothing to do with dismissing or insulting your religion, that comment was squarely aimed at you and there are plenty of religious people who will also think your views are archaic."

Ah the old 'other people agree with me' act. That comment was idiotic as you don't know nothing about me or even my religion.
Nice try though.

"As for the science comment, I doubt you have the ability to adequately appraise a scientific experiment or recognise methodological flaws. The inconsistency you display in saying you 'switch off' validates my hypocrisy hypothesis"

My God this guy is dim. Firstly, once again, you don't know me or anything about me. This is another nothing statement like most of your statements.

Inconsistency I display? How so? I did say agree with science on many things, but a few.

You have nada going for you here. Do yourself a favour and stop throwing haymakers in the dark.

My biggest issue is with people pretending things like this don't cause harm. We have spent years building science and misinformation can cause untold harm, questioning evidence is a core principle of science, but questioning it without the ability to fully understand it is dangerous

Macca moaning about religion but preaching about science and trying to get people to conform.

Guys u are both missing a third aspect of this argument! Mr Science, how dinunexplain the HAR1 mutation that Francis Crick said could not if just turned up so quickly! Mr religion how do u explain fossils found?! Again mr a science how do explain the direct correlation between the "watchers of genesis" and the an umami of the Summerians? However ok at it the elephant in the room is that both are one and the same but from the perspective of 2 human architypes, skeptics and believers.

the only argument you need for evolution is the appendix, it does nothing, it is of no use whatsover except to randomly kill you, why would god put it in you?

Who needs facts and evidence, when you have a story in a book.

dubbed I am basing my statements on things you've already said. I have made some assumptions to be fair.

You would take treatment for illness right? Antibiotics for an infection, ace inhibitors for hypertension, SSRIs for depression. Would you trust the evidence for them?

The reason I ask is because the evidence for the efficacy of many medical interventions is weaker than that for evolution.

So fair enough, if you don't believe in evidence based medicine then you are in fact, not a hypocrite.

8bit what's the difference between story in a book translated by Europeans (who have a history of craving control) OR selective teachings about fossils found?

posted on 15/2/13

Debates on religion almost always develop into arguments, belittling, etc. there's really very little point in it.

Mike, I can't explain those things, and I'm fine with that. The great thing is someone can do some research and maybe find answers to the questions you posed.
