Miguel Delaney raging about this proposed offside change

Its not going to work. Imagine giving strikers a yard run on a centre back? Every one will defend deep and make the game more boring. Wenger really needed to think about the consequences before announcing it.

If teams want to defend deep that's their choice, the offside rule won't affect that, though it will make the offside trap harder to do

It will make offside trap almost impossible to execute. That was my point on teams defending deep. Look how hard it is trying to find fast centre back these days, and now allow strikers to amble from an offside position to only put a foot behind a defender the moment a ball is played over the top.
Teams who defend deep with surrender the midfield and leave their forwards isolated

Or just rely on counter attack football. Which is very tedious if both teams are doing it. Look at how we push up these days. It means we can dominate possession in the opposing half. We take a risk because our CBs aren't all that fast. In fact its given Mustafi a new life because he is fast enough to cover eventhough not very aware when we defend deep. Thats going to be almost impossible if you give strikers such an advantage. You'll almost have to use fullbacks to cover and then you lose width.
Its seems a small change for a grumbling public because the delay VAR takes to judge offside. In fact it could fundamentally change football when you think abt the consequences. It'll be easier to have a system just doing offsides. Computers are more than powerful enough to track players live during a game. Every player in the premier league wears a sensor for physical monitoring anyway. Silly to change the fundamentals of the game which could have a simple technical solution.

Cool waffle
People said denying the passback would make teams sit back more, which did happen initially but football still got more exciting
