Not sure what’s going on with AMN, but unfortunately I now think we should’ve sold him and kept Emi. I understand his versatility made him more valuable to the squad, but we’re not seeing that (last time he started a match where he wasn’t LWB?) and now if he’s not even making the bench, what’s the point him being here?
So I’m also changing my mind about how versatile he actually is. I wanted to see him played centrally, but that seems unlikely to happen now - seriously, if he can’t get in ahead of Xhaka / Ceballos that’s not great. Maybe he’s not putting it in during training now? I mean, he’s not exactly pulling out top performances in the EL is he?
Besides, like most here I wanted Auba played centrally too. And look how that’s played out so far...
There really are reasons we don’t know about that inform managers’ decisions. Have to trust Arteta on this one. It’s not like he’s the only manager Ainsley has played under anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you blame yesterday's performance and the one against Villa and Leeds on a player not selected?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes. Yes I really do.
Even though I didn’t say that.
Or therefore mean it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just wondered what AMN not playing says abt why we are underperforming thats all.
Red herring.

The front 3/4 interplay is actually a disaster. It's literally as if there is no training done at all between that group of players.

Also the Saliba situation GT referred to. Again he’s hardly banging on Arteta’s door demanding a look in. His performances so far for the U23s seem to have been very ordinary.
If that’s because he feels it’s beneath him, well that’s not great really.
Jimenez has a fractured skull. Its worse than we feared.
I hope Luiz is ok.

Can’t go down the ‘chuck enough sh/t at the wall and something it bound to stick’ route of hiring and firing managers every 18 months as Chelsea, Man U, Spurs etc have done.
We’ve already got a situation where our current manager is failing to implement his ideas using players who can’t carry them out.
Bring in someone new now is only going to exacerbate the situation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spot on Lex.
Re: Maitland Niles.
From what I see of him, I think of all of our midfielders he has the most vision to open things up. But Arteta has stuck to Xhaka like glue. AMN got 10 minutes against Petes, Norwegian whalers. In fact I think Arteta heard Freddie's comments on Willock after Leeds and then played him box-to-box against Molde where he was successful. And his reward was to put him back at no.10 where he failed against Leeds.
I don't think its malaise. I have started to think its more worrying that Arteta is not able to judge players. And that imo is contextualised perfectly in Arteta's substitutions which rarely have an impact on the game.
Arteta was using Ainsley perfectly before bellerin came back.
RB in a back 4, tucking into midfield when we didn't have the ball. We looked better as a team, going forwards and defensively.
I'm not trying to hate on Bellerin, I just don't understand this hold he has over arteta. He makes a nice run or pass every 3 games or so. It's not enough.

Anyone know yet what it was that guendouzi did? Some are saying he was mocking arteta or something
Well whatever the issues, Arteta has until May 2021 to sort them out. Always knew, being his first job, that it would be a tough ask for Arteta but now he needs to significantly improve his overall effort.
His tactics, player judgement, substitutions, man management are all under intense scrutiny from now on.
Though like many, i'm scratching around his decisions trying to figure out what he's all about. I don't see a footballing philosophy from him. I suppose the assumption was that he'll take what he's learnt from Wenger and Pep and bring that to Arsenal, but i'm honestly puzzled as to what he's trying to mould us into.

I think it was a general lack of respect (several issues of discipline were mentioned) for not only Arteta but a few of his staff.
TBH, i'm not too fussed because it's not as though Guen showed anything more than OKish performances.
Okish performances are far better than what xhaka and ceballos are providing atm
Would add a bit of pace and drive to MF but think Willock would do the same
Gwendo is not the answer.
When did we last get a player one on one with the opposition keeper? Barely remember any bar Saka away at Leeds late on.
Gwen was being a bit of a nob on and off the field but he was made and example of by Arteta looking to stamp his authority

Not sure, but we know by the end a lot (most?) of the players would openly mock Emery. So maybe he thought he'd try to bring that back in.
In fairness to Arteta, I've not heard or read of any other player failing out with him. Not even anything concrete regarding Ozil.

Also who turned up in the post match presser yesterday? Willock. Why?! What's wrong with the club captain, or the ex-captain, or the other 7 senior players who should have stood up to the cameras rather than a 21 year old.
