I'm conflicted, tbh. On one hand I'm kinda glad the circus show is over and we can move on. Ozil was a legend for the club but he's on mega wages and not playing, it's always a sign of trouble.

But on the other hand, if a manager is happy to let Ozil rot and yet have full confidence on dross like Xhaka, Willian and Pepe, you've got more trouble ahead.

Good luck to Mesut for the future. Hope he revives his career elsewhere. But if us Gooners think our troubles will dissolve because we got rid of a player that never played, you're in for a shock.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So much speculation is this. We dont know why Özil wasnt a choice for Arteta anymore.

The dross you talked about had nothing to do with Özil
not playing. Not the same position.

Özil and his off field media campaign got unbearable for the club and for the fans. I am happy that this has been solved and we can move on.

Those games when we blew away United and Chelsea in first 20 were the best. Have to include Walcott in that though.

Ozil and Sanchez and Ramsey played some of the best football in the Emirates ever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surely not as good as Cesc, Nasri, RVP.

But I agree that Ozil has been a bit of victim of circumstance by Wenger's obsession of possession over tempo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Trouble with those 3 was that cesc and RvP were never fit at the same time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Adebayor and Eduardo weren't bad filling in.

For one season tbf.

Agreed, Tu. I also think Nasri’s time at Arsenal is quite overrated tbh. He had a run of good form for 6 months. The rest of the time he was fairly average.

Best football we’ve played post-Highbury was with Cesc, Hleb, Rosicky and Flamini.

tbh I miss Cesc's high tempo game. Would have loved to see Cesc and Ozil combo play in midfield.

Yeah, definitely 07-08. Some of the football on show that year was sublime.

Some of Ozil's football has been ridiculously good. But yeh, I'd accept that he hasn't been as effective on scoring plus post mega contract he declined massively. But tbh, that was always likely to happen. Look at Auba right now. Hunger is all gone.

Could’ve bought Cesc back if only we’d sold Ozil in the window DJ mentioned.

Though I think we all know Wenger not re-signing him had nothing to do with Ozil, and was simply because he broke Wenger’s heart

Hunger is all gone.

Not necessarily. Look at Ronaldo, Messi...

I really don't think its anything to do with hunger. These players have been on mega contracts most of their careers.

Yes I agree. Ozil had been playing wide for Germany and Real Madrid. There was no reason why both couldn't play in the same team.

Nothing quite like being rejected by someone you love.

Imo, Wenger must take a lot of the blame. He often pandered to Ozil's wants and should have put his foot down from the start.

Still, an amazing signing way back then. And Alexis followed soon after. Honestly thought we were going to achieve something great in that time. Shame how it's turned out.

And what exactly was the reason for Wenger not to sign Cesc back? A broken heart?

Cesc was a back stabbing Spanish rat. Wenger was right not to sign him back.

That broke Wenger's heart for sure. After all he has done for Cesc and his career Wenger surely was hurt.

Why Wenger not used his biography to clarify some things showing what a great guy Wenger is.

Wenger is class through and through. Would never resort to petty matters like that.

Arteta needs to take note.

Ozil will go to Colney tomorrow to say his goodbyes to #afc squad & staff. He's not getting the full £7m.

Good.

Ozil will sign for Fenerbahçe on Monday.

You just know that after celebrating his departure, our "fans" will start biitching about the lack of creativity in our side after a 0-0 draw against Newcastle 🀬
