Trouble is, IAWT, selling Partey because we’re keeping Arteta isn’t going to solve anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It'd generate funds for whichever Kia's player we want to give a life-time contract though. Who's else can we sell who has some values but won't lead to the fans rioting?

And we replace them with?

There are plenty of players that would want to sign for Arsenal in the summer, even without European football, that would improve us next season.

The lad from Brighton being one example.

Only issue being if a club with it come in for them too.

If you think Arteta is useless you should at least want to see Partey under another manager
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But Arteta is here to stay. I genuinely don't see him be sacked. Who's gonna do it? Because that person in charge of sacking him will then be responsible for finding a replacement. We currently have no one at board level capable or even willing to do that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He will be sacked same time as Emery or earlier if results stay the same

Think they will give him the summer but maybe the form/loss of revenue and fan demonstrations will spur them to act

Even then, don't really trust them to make the right appointment and give that person the tools to succeed

Aye, even after the shambles of last night, this season and the knowledge he just isn't good enough, I still believe Arteta won't be sacked until the fans are back. Then it's 2 months to test the waters, and if the home crowd turn on Arteta, he's done.

So we'll get in another manager who'll come in with the knowledge he has a transition season, does moderately well in the short term before succumbing to the usual issues, and we go full circle again

Most don't need replacing, tbh. With no European football we should streamline the squad.
12 are already not at the club.
Of those still here, Nelson and Nketiah are barely involved and have others already in place to overtake them.
Right back is an obvious upgrade area, while Leno seemingly wants to go.
Elneny is back up, and the streamlining of the squad allows him to go. CM is another obvious area for improvement.

Lacazette is the only issue really, as buying a striker is an expensive and tough art. But he is off sooner or later.

Fonseca is leaving Roma at the end of the season. I'd take a punt on him rather than give any more time to Saddam Husteta

Upgrade on Elneny alone is 35m for Sander Berge πŸ€ͺ or whatever Brighton demand for Bissouma

We do this to ourselves every premature end of season / summer. What we will actually do, or more likely, is spend a huge amount on one ‘exciting’ player, one or two other more mundane / bewildering signings, leave ourselves short again in other areas, and keep our fingers crossed until January.

Odegaard has been an improvement on our loan previous deals though, so perhaps there’s some hope we can do something like that again.

Ornstein: "I think it would be fair on Mikel Arteta in the view of the Arsenal hierarchy to allow him this summer window and longer to prove he can be a success at #AFC. So I don't think his position is under threat despite some quite intense pressure that's coming on him now."

Matt Spiro
@mattspiro
Who even decides if Arteta gets sacked or not? Edu? Vinai? Josh?! That’s the biggest problem at #Arsenal. It’s a rudderless ship, nobody at board level is qualified to make these calls or, more importantly, to define a coherent sporting strategy and stick with it

Well. Quite.

Thing is, I watched last night and I just didn't care. Shame.

Let’s all be quite clear about something.

When journalists like Ornstein say Arteta’s position is ‘under pressure’ it’s nowhere near the pressure Wenger was. And look how long it took for the club to sack him.

Not even sure we’re currently even at Emery level pressure yet tbh.

I feel so unease handing more money to Edu/Arteta tbh.
Of the 6 players we gave long term contract last summer, 3 of them have been a failure. The other 3 have been OK(ish) but not really set the world alight.
God knows what they might do this summer.
