Which have already improved on what went before.
What was before got both Wenger and Emery sacked. Do you think its fair that our expectation shouldn't be something better than both what Wenger did in his final years and Emery's poor stint at the club?
Don't forget that in his first full season Arteta had to put up with the dodgy deals that got him the likes of Mari, Cedric, Willian and Runar Runarsson and little else.
An injury mess in Partey and a young and injury prone Gabriel was all he really got.

And he is doing better
And Arteta has been given a lot money to overcome those exact issues. However most of those deals were done with his say-so as he has said himself often enough. Incl Runar

Match Day.
Think the most important game in Arteta's management career. Win it and we have a real shot to getting back to the Champions League.
Is that acknowledging he is doing better or setting him up for a fall?
Lose or draw and you can say he failed his "most important game", but win then you can go with the "anything but champions league is a failure".
Who's the straw man here?
J99 got himself all twisted here... How is me saying a fact that Arteta has a better record away than Emery even controversial?
Also feels like he's misrepresented what I said a bit... A straw man argument perhaps 🤔
Lets be fair, apart from the Liverpool game, Arteta has faced the "big 6" with Wengers ageing squad, plus Emerys poor additions, plus Rauls pension boosters. And still won 2.

What do you mean setting up to fall?
Wenger was fired because he couldn't qualify for the Champions League anymore. Kroenke gave him time and money and he couldn't do it.
Arteta's job is to do just that. Get us back to the Champions League before the end of his contract. Nothing complicated. He doesn't need to win the Man Utd game for that. But it would help a lot if he did because of the message it would send to the rest of the league.
I explained what I meant in the subsequent sentence.

And also pointed his spend and the importance of the Champions League in the 'process'. What kind of process would it be if one of your main cogs can turn the wheel?
