Absolutely I do.

Dunno if we go for him though, or a superstar name. Wouldn't pay more than £25-30m for him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But he signed a contract that expires in 25. So if we are after him we arent talking about £25-30m
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe they get relegated and we get a lower deal. 🤷🏽

He's just an option that I like. I'm not dead set on him.

Poor argument. Lukaku obviously played in better teams. Wijnaldum was relegated with Newcastle when Liverpool signed him. He was excellent for them. It's just not a good barometer, J99.

I keep telling you we will mix it up. Like ramsdale mixes up going long and playing short. It makes the team more unpredictable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want a striker who can do both then unfortunately he will be out of range. Halaand, Kane, etc. you can literally count them on your fingers.

I suppose the closest to that would be Darwin Nunez and even he is far more technical and would struggle against physical premier league defenders imo.

In any case I think Arteta is moving away from that tactic to one similar to Liverpool/City hybrid. Liverpool very much invert and drop their striker into midfield. City used to be able to do both when Augero was still with them. I think Arteta is moving towards that (I hope so anyway). And its bringing results. We don't sit deep anymore (well maybe when we get reduced to 10 or against the top teams).

It sounds like Martinez is a bit of a hybrid of the two too, but whether or not he's at the levels of consistency we need I'm not sure.

Not sure if haaland can do both, although I've not seen enough of him to give a final opinion. If Nunez can do both, great. Not seen him at all.

What tactic is arteta moving away from? You mean long ball to the striker? We literally can't do that with lacazette. He's just not particularly good, although I respect his efforts.

Tammy Abraham can do it too, although he needs to polish his game.

Tammy Abraham will go back to Chelsea for £200m next year and be dreadful for them. Already set in stone

No. We choose not to do it. We attempted it plenty last season and even the start of this season.

That was the whole point in buying new CBs and Ramsdale.

Ramsdale commands the box and that means he can patrols the edge of our area when teams play balls over our CBs. Like Lehmann used to.

And White/Gabriel push to the half way line. That compresses play in the opponents half and we can build in their half. It keeps the ball away from our goal. Just like City and Liverpool and that is actually very good for leaking goals as well.

I know we don't do it and I know why, you don't need to explain it to me.

But it would be a good option now and then. Like the Liverpool game for example, where lacazette was near useless.

It makes no sense to not try and utilize it from time to time given how good Ramsdale is with his distribution. Plus having it in your locker changes the way teams have to defend us which will give us more options in our more desired style of play

It's about mixing it up and becoming as unpredictable as you can in your build up. The structure is there, we just need to improve our options.

I hope Saka, ESR and Martinelli (even Eddie, Pepe) can carry us to 4th this season. This team goes up a level when we upgrade Xhaka and Lacazette.

posted on 2/4/22

Right now as a defender you don't have to get that close to Laca because you know he's limited in what he does, so CBs can just stay close together and hold a good shape until he gets close to goal. If you've got someone who really requires a lot of attention then that will rattle defences and create more space.

Ramsdale
Tomi White Gabriel Tierney
Partey
Odegaard Xhaka
Saka Martinelli ESR

If we need a goal late on, you could bring on, say, Calvert Lewin for Xhaka, switch martinelli to the left and put ESR in midfield. A totally different dynamic with just one sub.

Or if we upgrade Xhaka with an aouar type, its somebody to help you unlock a tight defence if saka and/or Odegaard are struggling.

Promote Norton Cuffy who is an overlapping option from RB, which gives Saka more space.

Or even sign a midfield anchor and allow partey to get forward to play passes and even shoot because he gets into much better positions now.

Add saliba to play out from the back better than Gabriel.

The structure is there to allow all this to happen. If we want to.

Thanks Pal. It would also be different if Laca could drop into those spaces and turn and run at a defence but he can't do that either.

What are fans thoughts on Tielemans?

Of the ball, the guy is absolutely useless.
