Dexter Blackstock

He's going through a very poor patch that's for sure. But in the past he's been very effective for us and has scored vital goals. I'm sure he'll come good eventually.

He's better away from home. Was good against Sheff Wed too, and helped out a lot defensively.

Up top though, things just haven't been going his way.

But the SharpCox partnership is a poor one, and doesn't work. 2 great individuals, but can't work together.

Dexter is trying too hard, which results in a lot of offsides at the moment. All he needs to do is regain a little composure, and he'll start scoring again.

Fully agree. He's worse than useless at the moment

Really hope his form picks up soon!

Rev .. if you watched him week in week out I'm certain you wouldn't be saying that!

Billy doesn't like Billy, if you get what I mean.
Davies likes his strikers to put a shift in, chase down defenders, but Sharp isn't going to do that.
Personally I think they've fallen out over this, and Sharp wasn't ill last night.

Dex isn't a prolific goal scorer, but he works hard, and creates space for the midfielders to attack. He is also invaluable in defence, and I'm not sure that some of his critics actually see the amount of work that he puts in.

For a moment, I thought I had stumbled upon a Conor Sammon thread

oldred47...that line about work...Same defence offered about Sammon

Seriously, it's interesting to hear that Cox & Sharp did not work out, just shows there is more to getting a front pair to work/get an understanding.

Denim, Sharp was excellent earlier in the season, closing down defenders, getting back to make tackles and working extremely hard. So to be honest I think it's unlikely that they've fallen out over that. Sharp has been poor since SoD left so that might be the real issue.

Giddy, obviously everyone is entitled to his / her opinion on a player, for me I will have time for any player who turns out for our club and shows pride in playing for our club no matter how good they are. Dex has always loved it here and shown that going right back to the joy on his face when he scored the last gasp winner against Bristol City whilst on loan in our relegation battle.
I think signing him on a long term deal was an excellent move from the club. You say let him go to Leeds for £400k, that's £400k more than we would get for him if we had not give him the new contract and he could have gone for nothing in the Summer. You only have to look at the players who have left on frees in recent seasons: Tyson, Commons, McCleary, Chambers, Lynch, Earnie to name but a few shows how much money we have wasted not tying players to the club.

You never saw anyone with a bad word to say about Dex until he sighed a new contract. He was mr popular. Now you struggle to find anyone with owt nice to say.

He is what he is. I think he always works hard and wins a lot in the air. He's decent at what he does and teams at our level need that at times. Also works hard defending at times which can really help and will gain us the odd point that could make the difference

Interesting that KingJacko

It seems for a lot of people (not pointing fingers at anyone) that as long as a player gives his all, then they will get their support.

If a manager is not performing however, then regardless of how much effort they put into their job, they get hounded out the club by lots of angry shouty supporters!

Dex has not been playing well for a while now, and seriously needs to up his game. He has the ability to be a decent Championship striker (at best), but we're not even seeing that at the moment!

The strikers are having problems at the moment. Dex and Billy have lost form, I don't rate Henderson. Cox is working his socks off but can't get a shot on target. We just have to be patient.

My preferred choice is Cox & Billy, but Dex would get in most Championship sides.

You will feel better if you just compare any of our strikers to the fish boy

Im with rev on this.

Surprised by the amount of stick hes had since he signed his contract. Odd thing is if he hadn't signed loads of people would be moaning. All about opinions I suppose. It is only since he signed a new contract he's been questioned, I think he's done alright and some of its s bit unfair.

CapnBob, would you swap Sammon for Blackstock?

"Denim if what you say not true",
Billy and Billy falling out is just a feeling I've got Rev and Caniggia. It's not something I've heard from a guy who knows a guy who knows Billy Sharp's postman's wife or anything like that!

The reason so many goals are going in from midfield is because opposing teams are so busy marking the two striker's.

Denimjays, Sharp has a chest infection, and probably won't make Saturday either.

Al-Florest, do you think Harding has a calf problem?

posted on 7/3/13

That's what's reported Denimjays, and it's on the official site too. I did wonder if the players that have gone missing were not to BD's liking but they all have knocks of one description or another - like the Kuwaiti keeper; I assumed he'd been dropped from the bench because Davies didn't rate him, but it turns out he's got a back injury.
