Ah yes, the argument that if someone disagrees with you they can't be old enough to have lived through the Thatcher years.
Top of the debate class for you.
The original post that you agreed with is a nonsense. That raises some serious questions about your intelligence levels.
it was a flippant remark in response to your 'this doesnt make any sense' remark
It made perfect sense to me, and the only reason why I could think why you didnt make sense of it was that you cant read properly or that you didnt get the Thacherite irony of it due to not really knowing what she was about.
Im losing the will to live here.

It does not make sense.
The idea that the comment 'if you can't afford it, get a better job' is relevant to the situation with the miners is just nonsensical.

This whole 'debate' is simply some people wanting to paint her in a bad light now that she is dead.
-----------
How old are you lad?
====
Why else are people so bothered by the cost of policing her funeral? Furthermore, why are said individuals not aware of the irony of these costs being incurred by their intentions to protest and threats to case disruption to the proceedings?
You all seem very willing to overlook the fact that the major costs of this 'state funeral' have only been deemed necessary in response to the childish behaviour of those whom elected to celebrate the immediate aftermath of her death with violence and rioting
Simple enough really. There were mass protests after her death as well as rioting. There have been threats of further disturbances and organised protests are due to take place. These things require policing, a lot of it. Hardly rocket science.
-----------------------------------------------------
All the more reason to keep it low key, as well as the fact the country is up to it's neck in debt and the working man again is being told to tighten his belt, but no, the tory party have dictated "she WILL get full honours" and "the taxpayer WILL pay towards policing and organising costs"
Arrogant priveleged public school tos sers.
French,
You stated that this debate was because some people "want to paint her in a bad light".
She did this all by herself. The dislike that many hold for Blair (myself included) pales into significance compared to the hate during Thatchers reign as PM. By many she was imo quite rightly despised and this is being reflected now she has died.
The fact that you believe that she is being painted in a bad light is hilarious and shows a complete lack of understanding of how divisive she actually was.
All the more reason to keep it low key
----
Not feasible in the face of such threats of disruption. Regardless of how low key the funeral would be, there wouldn't be anything to stop 10,000 protesters turning up and spoiling the occasion. Without a substantial police presence the situation could get out of control. In this instance, I don't think the Police should be considered a reactionary force. It's a woman's funeral for goodness sake. She has a grieving family. What right to people have to turn up at a funeral with the intention of disrupting their mourning?

On the contrary, I have a far better knowledge than most of Thatcherite politics and her effects - both good and bad - on this country.

Regarding this, I maintain that people are kicking off over the cost merely for the sake of 'having a dig at Thatcher.'
It didn't require immense foresight to realise that - in light of the reaction to her death - the occasion would require a high level of policing.
Hardly her fault, certainly not the fault of her family.

I don't think you're getting this, the whole situation has just been exacerbated by the tory party's decision to make the taxpayer foot the bill for part of the costs, this country is on the bones of it's ar$e when it suits.
what would you have spent your extra 13p on ?

So are you advocating a privately funded military and police force, because that is precisely what you seem to be expecting in this instance?

Why not in this instance, there are enough millionaires who will be attending who will have made their fortune thanks to her policies, why not give a bit back? i'm sure they would'nt object, after all, it is one of their own.

How do get there from someone not wanting a lavish state do for an unpopular PM?

Don't know how you come to that conclusion, football clubs pay for policing inside grounds, if the tory party want to stage an event that requires policing, let them raise the money themselves to foot the bill.
Yes but football clubs are required to subsidise the policing outside grounds.
Telling a private individual to foot the bill for policing when said individual already pays taxes to be able to attend the funeral of a friend/colleague without fear of reprisals from a baying mob is absurd.
