It's a good article, but bit exaggerated. Calls Byram a potential world class right back and says we could get £10million for him.
Byram could be a top half Premier League right back and the most we could hope for at the moment would be £3million.
Agree on the main points though - if he's sold and we put Peltier at right back instead, then get in quality attacking players, we're in a better position than with Byram in the side.
Hopefully the money's there without selling him though. Be better for his career as well to have another season of first team football.
Sam going is not as big of a lose as snograss going was.
However that post is utter rubbish, you only need to look at how many penalties he has won is this season. Then you have got the negative around the club that will happen if he's sold.
Am more worried about him being ripped out the side in jan with the negative affect. Cos if we are struggling and in a fight to stop up come jan, then rip him out the team, just = bad news.
I did specify a situation where Byram is sold, for decent money, and that money was reinvested to add quality in 3 or 4 position. That might be cloud cuckoo land, but that was my hypothesis. £10m is the figure I've seen bandied about for a player who is reckoned to have the potential of a Gareth Bale at that age.
Same potential as bale at same age

Wtf
Biggest joke I've heard
Bigger than "100 points next season"??
I think we can get about 4-7M tops can't see us getting much more then that. I think we would take a offer in that range.
Problem is that will more then likely not be all in one go and will be so something daft like 3M in one go then say 4M over 3years.
At one point he says "what we don't need is a potential world class player on the right side". What a moronic thing to say, why would anyone pass up on the opportunity of having someone of the quality of Sam in their side.
By all means bring in new players and let players leave but keep the core of good players we have
Byram
Warnock
Green
McCormack
Diouf
All need to be here next season
The thing is though that you pay outgoing transfer fees in a similar way - so you have the security of the incoming money, over whatever period, to back your recruitment.
Bale had played 45 games at age 17 and signed for Spurs. Different class to Byram.
Could you really see Byram becoming one of the best attacking midfielders in the country?
Maybe there's better examples of this, but the one that springs to mind is Connor Wickham at Ipswich.
They spent the money on fees and wages and finished 15th - went backwards.
Then again, they did have Paul Jewell as manager.
To be fair no one could see Bale developing into the world class winger he is now, after all he signed as a defender.
We sold Ian Snodin in 1986-87 and funded several badly-needed reinforcements on the proceeds of that - and got to the FA Cup Semi and the play-off final, rather unlucky not to win both.
Sell him and put Peltier at RB, we become weakened at the back as Peltier is a poor RB, Byram has the quality to play elsewhere in the team if you ask me.
We are after Nathan Tompson anyway.

Peltier's barely played RB for us.
He signed as a RB, then has played LB and CB.
You have to put it in context of him being a LUFC player. Our club has gained the reputation of being easy to tempt with relatively paltry sums of cash for our best players.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him sold. Wouldn't be suprised if the fee was a lot smaller than people are thinking.
Money aside- is he prem quality? Probably. Is he future world class? Doubtful.
He's just been called up for England u20 World Cup team.
Why not put him in tbe u21 team?
Peter Taylor- Everyone thinks he’s going to go to the Premier League...
He's still very young and not particularly established for the u21 team
The term world class is very overused these days! Very few players are truly world class. In this country only :
Rvp
Bale
Suarez
...are truly world class!
The only youngsters on Earth who are near world class are Lucas Moura, Coutinho and Lukaku.
All these players have excellent reviews at the top level, where as Sam shone in a weak championship league. Talented lad, but the hype is too much! Delph had more potential imo and should have been kept regardless.
"Wouldn't be surprised to see him sold. Wouldn't be suprised if the fee was a lot smaller than people are thinking."...........£ undisclosed ..........probably
Anyway, this little luxury we can't afford also chipped in with a few goals and quite a few attacking runs and assists last season, so it's not just his defensive capabilities that should be taken into account
The are a small time Investment Bank.
Not a great deal of that £10m will be heading to to the pot for new players.
i wouldn't want byram sold, he is imo an important part of the team/squad/club...if he's sold what message does that give to fans & our youth players, why are WE LEEDS UNITED a selling club...i seriously think that the old git has got into some of our fans head, just cos he thinks small club...he has probably trained GFH to think the same but there are thankfully some of us who still say that this club shouldn't be answerable to any other club...because we are still a big club....just need a board that realises that...
why are WE LEEDS UNITED a selling club
---
Every club in the world apart from 2 or 3 elite teams are a selling club.
Best Fans - I suggest you know exactly what point Harj is trying to make.
I for one certainly do, and agree 100% with what he says.
Has anybody considered the fact that the wishes of the player are likely to figure large in any decision? My article hypothesised the situation of him wanting to leave, and a large enough offer being on the table to make a sale worthwhile. I argued that a sale in those circumstances would be regrettable, but inevitable - and the right thing to do. I further argued that it needn't be the end of the world if investment then brought about the acquisition of 3 or 4 quality performers at this level, who would see us challenge hard for automatic promotion.
Can anyone seriously argue that this is not a valid position?
RobA61
There are some on here that will tell you that any player wanting to leave will have been sold against his wishes by Neil Warnock or Ken Bates (even though neither have anything to do with anything nowadays!!)
