Jose Mourinho is the best ever

He's sort of British. We're the only ones who like him.

You are having more trouble with stars than Operation Yewtree

Lol sorry about that, changed.

Fergie for me, however what Busby achieved is nothing short of remarkable.

to lose the nucleus of his team in munich, then within 10 years have lead his team to the league, fa cup and european cup is amazing.

Fergie's record on the biggest stage was average.

Bob wins

Depends what you mean by best. Paisley won the most cups to years ratio, but many would say Fergie for how his success over a long time, or Busby for winning one famous cup.

SAF also built up his own team rather than just profiting from Shankly's work

He wasn't, incredibly.

All great in their own right but it's Fergie for me. His achievements North of the border rank only second to Clough taking a provincial club in Forest to champions of England and then Europe. Couple that with the job he has done for nearly three decades at Utd and you simply can't look past that, even as a staunch Liverpudlian.

On Bob, he did inherit the foundations of a great team but he certainly put his own stamp on Liverpool and rebuilt a few great teams. Whilst showing his ability as a wonderful strategist in Europe. He set the standard.

Sadly, unless something special happens I find it difficult to see anything such happening again. For a long while at least. Fergie might just be the last.

We've always viewed managers as more a cult of personality here till recently were the foreign influence has gradually took over. Now it's a manager a minute. Don't expect to see any new names on this list if this question arises in 20 years time.

For me it would be Bill Shankly or Brian Clough. Both took a division two side to the champions of the top flight. That for me is one of the hardest achievements in football.

.................................................

That wasn't the case though. The team that finished Shanks last game in charge was completely different to the ones that were dominating Europe half a decade later, with new ideas as well. He certainly had a foundation to build on. A very good one at that but it wasn't simply a case of carrying thing on. He stepped it up a level with his own teams and ideas of how to play especially in Europe.

So Bob's 1981 European Cup winning team was full of Shankly players was it?

Only three of the 16 were Shankly signings.

The 1984 team managed by Joe Fagan that won the European Cup were all Paisley signed.

In the late 1990s I took a team from the then 3rd division to the premier league in 3 seasons and made it to 2 consecutive Coca-Cola Cup semi-finals...

Not blowing my own trumpet but I was pretty proud of myself.

It was Shankly who did the hard work of getting Liverpool in the position where Paisley could come in and what he did...

I did not state that Shankly bought all the players Paisley used.
