You're right, it was cheyrou
Ronaldo also had the talent to be the best Le Tallec didn't.
Cheyrou was the new Zidane - Houllier
Alan Smith was the new Roy Keane - Fergie
we all get some wrong
All I can remember Cheyrou ever doing was scoring a winner at Stamford Bridge. Literally nowt else.
The United fans can laugh now but time will tell on this one!!!!
Houllier's last couple of seasons were a bit of a nightmare.
He had such a great start, strange how he got so much wrong in such a short period time.
That cost a mountain of cash in losses.
Alan Smith was the new Roy Keane - Fergie
..............................................
Did he ever actually say that?
The closest I can actually find is this

"Alan's young and obviously it's something we're possibly looking at in terms of maybe the replacement for Roy eventually.
"There's Alan Smith, Darren Fletcher, Quinton Fortune and Phil Neville, who have all played in the position in the past.
Ferguson admitted the successor will be no match to Keane, who has made the position his own during his successful time at Old Trafford. "It is pointless looking for a replacement for Roy because there is no player like that around," he added.

He seems to imply that Smith will be playing in his position but never makes a comparison in terms of ability...
- Feck me, this is a great article! This has to go up there with Steven Gerrards, "Lionel Messi can do some amazing things, but anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better."
Ronaldo went on to become one of the greatest players of his generation.
Le Tallec went on to play for Valenciennes.
City won't win the league. Not in my lifetime.

beware the perils of agents!!!!
Well in fairness he is a pretty old guy... although I am pretty sure they had already won the league in his lifetime so he was wrong there as soon as he said it...
"I know some of the signings were not as sharp as they could have been. Maybe we would have won the title with Ronaldo, but we had Harry Kewell"
You brought a tramp FFS on the word of some dodgy looking portugese 'manager'. Football is full of unusual transfer stories and some wasted talent, as well as the success stories.
Hindsight is 20-20.
Football is littered with could-have-beens. Remember when Denilson was the best football on the planet and Seville paid 22m for an 20 year old. Turned out all he had was a step-over.
Freddie Adu was US football's first mega-star.
Pennant was Britains most expensive teenager.
Le Tallec was a decent punt that didn't work out. Air enough, would do no differently now - hope the club continue to take punts on talented youngsters. To be honest you're better off ripping us over Carroll, at least we genuinely had out pants pulled down on that one!
To be fair it's easy to laugh about it now but back then not many people would have known how much gap there actually is between the two.

In fairness however we weren't comparing him to Ronaldo or any other superstars though...
The Andy Carroll deal still made Bebe look a bargain.
I think Bebe is one of our worst ever signings.. at least with Veron and Berbatov we got some quality playing time out of them...
With Bebe we will lose a fair bit of money for just a few sub appearances and one or two starts...
In fairness to Hargreaves it was injuries rather than ability that was the problem.

"We" weren't either. One journalist/fan did. And he probably feels quite stupid about it now.
If you're making public comments then you're going to be pretty lucky to go through your career without dropping the odd clanger. Apparently you don't win anything with kids....
I only remember watching Bebe once against Wolves i think and it had to have been one of the worst performances i've ever seen by a premier league player.
I still don't know what made you guys buy him.
"In fairness to Hargreaves it was injuries rather than ability that was the problem."
That's the worst situation and such a shame.
I've got a mate who trained with Fowler when they were kids and there was some other player at the time who was miles ahead of him. Did his knee in around 15 or so and that was the end of that.
It's not just being talented enough, you also have to have parts that last which has nowt to do with skill and something a buying club gambles on with every player.
I was a big Hargreaves fan. Class player cheated by faulty parts.

Veron had his moments and you made a bit of cash back on him, Berb definitely had his moments - quality player, wrong club for him unfortunately. In terms of big money I still think Anderson may be the worst.
Bebe is in a different league to those. In a league with Kleberson and Djemba-Djemba. A nice reminder that no matter how good you are, you can always balls the occasional thing up!
Just had a look at this Fifa youth championship to see who previous winners of the player of the tournament were.
First off, Le Tallec never won it. Suntans Pongolle did. Some of the players to have win it have disappeared into nothingness
89 - Wil, Scotland
91 - Lamptey, Ghana
93 - Addo, Ghana
95 - Kathiri, Oman
97 - Santhamaria, Spain
99 - Donovan, US
01 - Pongolle, France
03 - Fabregas. Spain
05 - Anderson, Brazil
07 - Kroos, Getmany
09 - Emmanuel, Nigeria
11 - Gonzalez, Mexico
