Miles from Dundee

I watched a SPL game live on Sky whilst in the gym recently.
It was that bad that I moved X-Trainer to watch another TV showing Countryfile (desperate!)
It was nowhere near English League 1 standard.
However, if this guy is a proven goal-scorer and a finisher then worth a punt because we haven't got the money to buy a recognised finisher from our top leagues!

You are correct, it is nowhere near League One standard; it is far higher.
I'm glad we agree.

I know the scout who's bin watching games in scotland for derby and he's watched russell a lot and rates him higher than the fish

Amber, based on this seasons performances by Sammon that should not be difficult!

Drunken hobo, personally, thanks for the input on Russell. A lot of the Derby fans on here will appreciate the input. More so if turns out to be a gem.

Regards the height, I really don't think that's an issue as much as you may believe fans in England are fixated on.

Duncan Ferguson was a big unit, did well in Scotland but didn't have a great record in EPL. Some of the better strikers at Championship level have been midgets. Mobile players with pace.

I think the best way to resolve the argument of whether the Championship or the Scottish Premier League is at a better level is to arrange a home and away friendly. Winner has bragging rights.

Some derogatory comments about Sammon above. But I saw all his games and he looked a pretty good target man to me and I will wager he will get 15 or 20 goals for Derby next season.

You saw it here first.

Its the same scout that got bryson 2 derby and told derby sammon is worth £650k kilmarnock wanted only for derby to bid no higher than £600. If we'd got the fish for £650k do u think he would of bin seen in a different light.

Most definitely. I think that is part of the problem. We know how much Wigan bought him for and they made a tidy profit selling him on. For a million plus signing in the current market you expect a little bit of quality and consistency. I've seen Sammon play a few times and he did not justify his price tag.

Now if we'd sign Dwight Gayle (Peterborough striker) for possibly 100k+ we'd be delighted because that would prove to be a good piece of business. But that's where our scouting and eye for talent comes in.

I'm expecting Sammon to hit 15 plus goals next season, partly because that's what I expect he should be delivering and partly so that the booing culture will fade so that he can hopefully show his true potential. (And hopefully head the ball, preferably numerous times into the back of the opposition's net. )

Sammon is an odd one. He wasn't very good for Killie for a couple of years, almost a joke figure, then suddenly was brilliant. For 6 months he became an excellent passer, skillful, had a good touch and was a composed finisher. Got a move to Wigan for what seemed like a low price, didn't do that well there but his price had doubled when you signed him (cf. Premier League experience comment). Perhaps the Irish Zamora. Pants, suddenly brilliant then back to pants again.

Apologies if I seemed a bit insulting about your club, usually a bit of back & forth between Scottish & English clubs and I just wanted to get the digs in first.
Seem like a decent bunch though, better than the bloody Blackburn lads were when we were selling them Goodwillie.

Nice to see the sheep go for another cheap jockstrap.

so if we get Russell.... they will go for goodwillie...

there's nothing wrong in going for a goodwillie..... as long as he can penertrate well..

I hope as a player..he goes deep.....pushes hard...and finds the back of the net...

nothing wrong in wanting a goodwillie to make you a better team.......

it's going to be hard for goodwillie to leave Blackburn I guess...

have you missed me ?

Pep...can u explain why Forest are offering reduced terms to a current player AND offering a contract to a 33 year old striker who's out of contract...and ridiculed what Forest offered him?

posted on 5/6/13

Reduced turns are for Tudgay. He will be a squad player. At 30 years old he knows the rest of the squad and could it would be like signing a player for nothing. As for Henderson, I don't think we have offered him the contract as far as I am aware. If he was to stay for a year, I wouldn't expect him to start all the time either. He suffered a little with injury. Once fit he could produce the form he had with Millwall. Tried and tested in this division, both of them. As FFP kicks in we have no choice to look at players like this

I don't even know who Ivan Golac is, but I already despise him thanks to this cretin.

How can somebody be so deluded to believe that the SPL is considerably better than the npower Championship?! For starters you have to play teams four times a season just to make it worthwhile.

Can't believe Page 1 of this thread. I'm all for bias, but even a Scot has to say that the Scottish Leagues are utter tripe.

Speaking of utter tripe Spotty should know, he is a Forest fan

The sweat has a point though; Derby do play hoofball.

Ave it.

BBC Scotland saying personal terms agreed with Derby, medical on Monday.

Looks like Russell is heading our way. Doubt he'll "fail an eye test" - we don't do that sort of thing this side of the A52.

Derby fans judging this guy on a few YouTube clips from a weak league. I do pity you.

We did the same with Robbie Findley.

I just know you lot will be hyping up your chances now. Inevitable. Top 6 certainties surely

posted on 5/6/13

We will see how the season pans out Spotty. A number of dogs were bigging up their team at the start of last season with all your stellar signings such as goal shy Cox and the loan rangers.

I see blind George Boyd's fortunes have prospered since he was rejected by the doggies. A lucky break there for him.

I am feeling quietly confident at the moment. A couple more signings and I think we will have a team capable of challenging for an automatic place. Always assuming the players signed are any good that is.
