I do not agree with the notion that one needs to have a game with several variations to be considered the greatest player.

Of the players you mentioned as having a much varied and entertaining game, only Graf volleyed. Very few women tennis players are/were consistent volleyers. Among slam winners, names that come to mind are Goolagong, Navratilova, and Graf; maybe one or two others.

Graf spent most of the time at the back of the court although she could volley.

She was never a serve-volleyer like Navratilova or Novotna.

Serena is up there now one of the greatest, if she can sustain this kind of domination for the next 3-4 years then she will probably be the best ever.

she is so superior to the other Girls that there is no competition when she is fit, I believe she should be playing in the men's tournaments !
