Can anyone give a report on the game?

It sounds like PD called Quinn's bluff.

When you look at the list of traillists and their cvs at http://www.doncaster.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=323707 you cannot fail to be unimpressed

Dickov has talked earnestly of looking for players with Championship and PL experience yet only one of these has even made it beyond League 1 level (and then only 15 appearances, some in League 2) and the rest of them only claim non league, French League 3 and one as a League 2 substitute, once.

It is feasible that some talent may be missed by the better clubs as they cast off their unwanted ones, but even considering players with such modest history is utterly inconsistent with Dickov's avowed objectives.

Unless of course you count being on the staff of Championship and PL clubs as "experience"!

Basically I'd say he was wasting his energy in trawling at this level and sadly this seems a further illustration of him saying own thing and doing almost the opposite.

And since we are now into the new contract year why has not a single player whose contract expired on 30 June re-signed?

I'm not sure that these triallists are inconsistent with PD's and the club's statements Donaldo. If you remember prior to and at the time of PD's appointment as manager, the club were talking about a strategy of recruiting young, talented players that could be developed and also recruiting a few more experienced senior players - plus a lesser number of loanees. It seems that the triallists from yesterday fit into the first category - young players with some talent that the club may be able to develop. What we have to hope, of course, is that some more senior players and 2 or 3 talented loanees are also recruited, so that we can start the season in reasonable shape.

I hope we do get some good class ready-made first team recruits too Crazy, but all the activity seems to be on the lesser priority end of PD's list of requirements. He just has not delivered (even with Forrester and Duffy - if he comes) the quality and experience which he promised. I'm looking for encouragement and on the evidence so far not getting it.

I don't like to disparage anyone's ability especially when I only have something I have read to go on, but there seems little about these players to encourage you to feel enthusiastic about their potential.

but maybe also it's a case of having to wait for the more experienced, quality players, who will no doubt want to explore all their options before commiting to any particular club - we'll just have to wait and see, but time is running out, for sure - we need to have the majority of the first team squad signed up within the next 10 days or so, if they are to be able to start to gel with their team mates before 3rd August.

Maybe it's the board insisting on this policy as it worked so well last season!
