I'd imagine not going to Wimbledon would help...
You cant knight someone for doing something that someone does, and will do, every year - surely?

So just because a british man has won a brititsh tournament in his sport for the first time in 36 years or however long he should be knighted??
If a Lewis hamilton or jenson button had won the british Grand Prix and it had been 30 years since a brit had done so would people be calling for them to be knighted??
Probably Chich, it is pretty ridiculous tbh. Though to Murray's credit, he won Olympic gold and holds 2 grand slam titles. Still not enough to be even considered for a knighthood though.
Chicharitooooooo
You make a good point. And if AM is knighted on the back of winning a British title then the Queen is going to have to start knighting individuals and teams every single year.
Stupidity.

I get you but not quite the same. I'd suggest the British GP would be like a round in Wimbledon and winning the championship would be like winning the major.
Still either way a ludicrous thing to think about doing.
What did Mark Thatcher do? Other than be the witch's son and try illegal coups in Africa- which he only got away with because he was her son, no other reason why. Yet he is "Sir".
The whole system is bollox.
oOg,

Wouldn't winning pole position be compared to a round in Wimbledon, or even a lap, with the winner of over 60 laps be comparable to the Wimbledon title?
Its difficult to compare, i know, but a driver doesnt just get put on the grid and hope for the best. Sixty laps of pure skill is certainly equal to beating 4/5 opponents in tennis.
Knighthoods are available in Waitrose.
I think people just put to much emphasis on a brit winning wimbledon if he only ever wins 1 wimbledon will people say he should be knighted
Rather than knighting Murray for being the first Brit to win Wimbledon in 77 years, they should have expatriated all those who failed to do so in the interim.

Don't mind being a pedant but he was not.
He was the first Brit 'Male-singles champion'. There have been other winners of 'Wimbledon'.
Nah Chicken do no agree with that at all.
There is also the fact that the 'equipment' in F1 is so vastly different it is often not even down to the drivers.
This has nothing to do with Murray winning Wimbledon.
Fact is that Murray is flavour of the month. He is also quite a patriotic Scot but hasn't made clear his views on Scottish Independence. There is nothing more English (perhaps German) than the Royal Family and a knighthood diffuses Samond completely.
Just like it did Chris Hoy.
By all means be as pedantic as you like here, TRC. I don't follow tennis really.
Saw Murray's semi against the big Pole, (fnar) and a bit of the game yesterday. Surprised how good he's got, tbh.

And how do you think tennis players get to where they are today?
Do you think Murray started his career using a wooden racket and a packet of 3 tennis for £1 a pop?
* packet of 3 tennis balls for £1 a pop?
You can win a championship being the worst driver in the F1, but having the best car.
They all play with the same tennis balls, and have racquets of equally high standards.
F1 is not comparable in any shape or form to tennis. That is not even up for debate.

See Jenson Button for reference.

You can also win Wimbledon without even being seeded, but have a good racket.
