It's unusual for United to come out publically over a move for a player. I think we definitely wanted Thiago but the club never confirmed it.

With Cesc they have though. Why? I have no idea. Maybe they are confident he's joining.

Still can't see it happening though. Barca really can't be daft enough to dispense with Thiago AND Cesc in the same summer, can they?

If this one falls flat on it's backside, the heat on Moyes is going to be turned up again. I hope he knows what he's doing.

VIK II

You don't need to worry about eggs and baskets because i'm sure United have identified a ton of players they want to sign if Fabregas doesn't work out.

But there must be something in these Fabregas rumours or else we just wouldn't be interested.

What we fans know (i.e what has been released to us in the media) is always 2 or 3 steps behind what is really going on.

It may well be that Fabregas and United are working out personal details and the fee just needs to be set.

If for any detail the deal (if there is one) fails then we still have over 6 weeks to sort out a deal or two with other players.

Don't the club have to accept a bid before you can start discussing personal terms

The club seem very confident on the Fabregas situation, I think they're the only ones though. Maybe Ed will prove us all wrong

Sorry, I meant to say that IMO Barca are happy to sell Fabregas to us (for the right price) but it's probably up to Cesc to push it through and he'll only do that if United and him can sort out a deal (which i'd imagine these talks would be with Barca's full blessing)

There's no way rooney will be sold until we've significantly strengthened, it seems we've bid for cesc, and barca have rejected the initial bid, now it's a case of how much they want, and wether he's prepared to come here, i don't think the club would be wasting time over this if they were'nt given encouragement from some party.

It's hardly Moyes fault if Fabregas does not come. It means that eitehr Barca did not want to let him go and/or the player does not want to come. You could attribute it I suppose to the player not wanting to play for a manager but that doesn't really happen.
You sometimes will get the lure of a manager where the player really wants to play for him such as Maureen or Pep but that's normally players that have worked for them before or perhaps fellow countrymen.

Don't think Arsenal are even interested. They have Jack the lad now anyway.

Modric would be another option

Fellaini may not even be on moyes's agenda, baines maybe but he'll probably think if he starts signing every tom d ick and harry from everton, united fans might not take too kindly to it.

Arsenal have no money

Arsenal having first refusal is utter nonsense. If barca accept a bid from us then there is nothing arsenal can do about it. It s then up to the player what he wants to do.
Many fans seem sure that he would return to arsenal over joining us. I am not so sure, he is at a stage in his career where he wants to win things and be playing regularly for his country. He has more chance if he was playing for us. Plus he would have rvp and also de gea hopefully bending his ear

Its imperative we strenghten midfield....
The club cant f uck about this summer

If its Fellaini so be it.....

Les - I agree. If he does leave he will look forward to a new challenge. Imaging he could be the main man in United's engine room. Ballack didn't have the bollx for it, has Cesc ?
I really think it's a bad idea to retrace your steps and work where you previously did. It's like revisiting a place you loved years ago and on returning that quaint bar or cafe has been replaced by a car park, that great camp site is a Lidl, the deserted beach is crammed, the cliff face has eroded and only half the beach remains...

I agree, why would he return to Arsenal, since he left they sold two more of their best players (Song and RvP)

Mata is hardly a midfielder, is he?

Ramires, Lampard, Mikel etc are their midfielders.
===========

Not entirely accurate. Mata is a fantastic player and like Rooney there are excellent bits to their respective games.

If Mata was available, I would have him at Utd in a heartbeat.

"Rooney not for sale"
===========

Interpretation, we are not looking to sell him, so bid higher or eff off

I guess you're forgetting the games where Rooney was so poor he was subbed and he walked off with the look of someone who played some of the worst games of his life.

I don't think Mata was ever that bad.

Mata often tired quickly and fatigue seems to always make him ineffective come the end of the season.

Whilst I wouldn't say he was playing badly very often his natural physique and fitness means he isn't always the maestro that's made out.

Mata played a hell of a lot of games and wasn't rotated, that's why he was tired
