I don't agree, Rob.
I doubt they'll get as much for Bale next year as they would now, however, they look so close to breaking into the top 4 that it would be a massive set back to sell Bale now.
If they can supplement what they have and finally overtake Arsenal they'd be better placed to sell Bale. They may get less transfer fee but the CL money would make up for it and the attraction of CL football would make it easier to attract top players.
It is amazing how many people think a transfer fee is relative solely to ability.
Barf
There should be no doubt that Bale was stupendous last season in a good but not great team.
The guy has it all and will be a star in a better side.
As far as valuing other players, Messi IMO would be valued at £150 million and Ronaldo at around £100 million (due to his age).
It all depends on the length of their contracts too.
And your right Barf... But for some weird reason we always seem to give players away!!!
In today's market Rooney should be the same as that horrible little urchin Saurez - 40 to 50m
Greedy greedy greedy horrible club!!!
------------------------------------------------------------
What? For not wanting to sell their best player. When Bale goes, he won't go for anywhere near that, but the valuation is a statement. That statement is that he is not for sale. Now, if a club is stupid enough to pay over the odds for a player, it's Real Madrid. If a club wants a player, they have to pay up. We're currently seeing this with Suarez.
Tottenham are not doing anything wrong here.
Robb, you think Messi is £50m better than Ronnie
That's crazy talk!!!!
Greedy greedy greedy horrible club!!!

Surely the likes of Arsenal buying Suarez (which looks fairly likely) will make a relatively samey Spurs side less likely to qualify for the CL though? Bale would have to replicate the amazing season he just had AND Spurs will need to improve a lot to guarantee 4th place.
Selling Bale and buying say 3 top players is like taking one step backwards and 2 steps forwards.
If they can buy a couple of top players without selling Bale then fair enough. But it remains to be seen whether or not Spurs have that money.
And besides, Bale may well hand in a transfer request to get this done this summer.
Ronaldo moved 5 years ago, inflation!!

Eh? So if your flat was worth £500k 5 years ago you would now expect it to be worth over £1m? Would you pay twice as much for a car now than you would have five years ago? Or any product for that matter?
Bale is worth around £60-65m tops imo.
Rooney's right boot
I think he's £50 million better because he's a couple of years younger, a better player (but not by much) and his contract is a lot closer to being finished than Messi's is.
Rooney's right boot
Levy showed with Modric he's perfectly capable of negotiating a player sale when he wants to. Bale is not for sale so 100m or 120m is just the press speculating what it'd take for us to sell him against our wishes.
I understand your frustration, I can't see us selling to United whatever the offer.
Bales left Chadli
I'd be willing to bet a large sum of money that if Real offer £100 million cash for Bale this summer that Levy would take it.
Like I said earlier, what if Bale has a massive injury this season?
Robb... But 50m???
That's two Rooney's worth!!!
Maybe, Rob, but I still have my reservations about Suarez joining Arsenal - I just cannot see Liverpool selling to a team they're trying to finish above.
While what you say is true, there's no guarantees Spurs could attract the calibre of players needed as well as have them all gell fast enough.
One advantage Arsenal have over them that they haven't in previous seasons is that they won't be selling their best players, so they're likely to have a more settled team than they have in the past.
Selling Bale now would set them back, in my opinion.
It's CL or bust in terms of Bale's future at Spurs, in my opinion. Even then, he might leave if they do get it.
Eh? So if your flat was worth £500k 5 years ago you would now expect it to be worth over £1m? Would you pay twice as much for a car now than you would have five years ago? Or any product for that matter?
=========
No, because house prices haven't inflated that much.
Transfer prices have risen in 5 years, hpuse prices haven't. Pointless comparison, or do you think football reflects everything else in the world? Maybe you should ask your boss for 100k a week.
If you were in the same position with Ronaldo now as Spurs are with Bale (ie do not want to sell and no need to cash in) would you be happy with £80m?
Like I said earlier, what if Bale has a massive injury this season?
---
What if his replacement had a massive injury in his first game of the season?
I doubt they will bid for him now, Perez has already backed off. 100m? Sounds a nice round figure to put in a tweet
If Bale does go for big money then I think the transfer window will explode.
The likes of Modric, Di Maria, Pepe, Khedira, Ozil and maybe even Ronaldo (to balance the books) might become available.
Before anyone says, "they can buy four £20m players" life is not like that.... That is exchanging 1 wage for 4.

But Spurs need 3-4 players of that sort of quality to progress as a club anyway. The Bale money would effectively fund what they already need to fulfil their stated ambitions.
Spurs are taking a risk imo. If Bale for wahtever reason plays less well next season or suffers injuries etc then his value could plummet. I doubt his stock will ever be higher than it is now tbh.
Bales left Chadli (class name btw)
Your right about that Levy would never sell to us! I have no idea why though... We've give them enough money over the years!!!

----------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. And the big difference would be that those 2/3/4 players won't leave the second Spurs get into the CL where it's quite possible that Bale will.
I heard Southampton included a couple of clauses when they sold Bale to Spurs.
One was a first option clause that is activated if Spurs accept a bid from another team. The clause is a fixed fee of £4.5m. £500,000 less than the initial fee Spurs paid for him. So if Spurs do cave in and agree to sell him to RM for £80m, this clause comes into effect.
The second clause come into effect if Bale is sold to another club other than Southampton. They get 50% of ANY fee Spurs receive. So if RM pay £80m, Southampton get £40m of it.
Apparently these clauses are quite commonly included in all transfers involving clubs from North London.
tribal football? oh dear!
Spurs got rid of the clause for an extra couple million when they needed the money
