My top 6 will be
Wigan
Reading
Watford
Forest
Bolton
QPR
M'Boro
In any order. I think we need to get off to a good start if we are seriously looking at top 2
This season is as hard to pick out a stand out team as any of the last few. History dictates that a supposed favourite/relegated team will struggle and a complete outsider will push for promotion (Brighton/Palace/Watford).
The sides that came down are quite strong and nobody has really made signings to say stand up and look at us despite you probably all disagreeing and saying Forest have. Very difficult division as so many teams are of equal standard. I will be dodging the Championship on my Acca's until it starts to take shape in November.
Webbo, take Boro out of that and I think that's a good guess. I think Boro, along with Brum are relegation candidates. If I was a betting man I'd say that Wigan will walk the league. But like Tommo says, this league is incredibly unpredictable and I wouldn't be surprised if Yeovil made top 6!

QPR and Bolton - automatic
Forest, Reading, Wigan and Watford - play-offs
Brighton, Ipswich, Leeds and Charlton - in the mix
QPR will win the league easy. They'll be like Newcastle were a few years ago when we came third. Wigan should be up there in terms of ability but I'm not sure their gaffer is up to much. Could say the same about Reading although I'm sure plenty would disagree. I'm not sure about Watford either.
Leicester will be up there, as will the mighty Forest, Ipswich under big mick and Brighton will do well again.
QPR i can see going a portsmouth. They've struggled to flog off much of the dead wood and they've not hit many of their transfer targets. I can see harry off by christmas.
Wigan will compete but theres been too much change for autos. Reading will do well. Fester wont.
Imo its reading, ipswitch, bolton, watford, forest, and wigan top six.
Forest champions of course
Not sure who will finish below Derby.
I've looked at the teams and considered every option
It is so difficult
The reason I haven't picked QPR is that I think that like Blackburn, Wolves, and Brum before them they are a club in turmoil. Plus I can't see them keeping Barton, Taarabt, and Remy much longer.
Tommo, I reckon Palace will struggle to compete for promotion as they're already in the Premier League.
I think QPR will struggle. Wigan and Reading will be difficult to compete with, but it depends how good our signings are and who else we bring in.
Bolton will do well, as will Watford. Don't rate Ipswich at all, Millwall might surprise a few, Brighton, Fester, and us will all be competing for the playoffs. Somebody like Blackburn or Brum might surprise us, but then they could just as easily go down. And who knows what the promoted teams from league 1 will do - a lot have done well recently.
My prediction for to 6 is:
Q.P.R.
Forest
Wigan
Leicester
Watford
Reading
Tommo, I reckon Palace will struggle to compete for promotion as they're already in the Premier League.
An example of a club who came from nowhere to win promotion. Hope this clears things up.

Its not unpredictable at all INS...Forest have it nailed on
I see a certain Nottingham Forest only gained 5 points from their last eight games.
--------------------------------------------
I see Derby County only just managed to avoid relegation............. and still finish below Forest.
Spartacus, your 2nd paragraph makes sense but I've seen you say three times that the end of the previous season is an indication for the next. Unless you can back that up with some stats I'll assume you're talking out your backside
