For me he doesn't suit us. He's slow, and I know RVP was no Usain Bolt, but he still had that ability to accelerate, which is why we arguably had better success with Poldi or Theo leading the line.
He also isn't technically good enough. Someone like Ibra is slow, but they can read the game so well and can pass well, maintain the tempo, play 1-2s and not slow down the attack, as well as get in the positions and finish consistantly.
Giroud for me isn't technically good enough. He's never in the box for crosses. His finishing is inconsistant to say the least and I can name 6 games where he cost us/almost cost us off the top of my head.
It's all a new thing to him though. 1st season in a quicker paced, English Football, different country, fast movers of the ball Arsenal side. it's all a learning experience and he did look to be getting better the back end of the season.
Just need to give him until January to make a fair assessment on him, if he isn't getting the goals often enough, point proven, look elsewhere for someone.
But I still think he'd be a good Striker for you this season.
Wiki says 11 in league 17 overall.
Suarez's goal per game ratios was nearly double overall.

Judging on his performances in the Emirates Cup, he has not improved at all and has further emphasises our desperate need for a top quality striker and not an average striker who 'might' become a good one.
Giroud's a strange one. Everytime I've seen him play, he seems obsessed with laying the ball off for every man and his dog rather than taking a shot on goal.
Got a feeling Suarez may be used on the left of a front three. Wenger loves playing players out of position.

-------------------------
Because he's a bottler. He doesn't want to take the responsibility of trying to score, and facing up to the possibility of him fecking up. Giroud is essentilly a p|ss poor striker forced into a high pressure role.
When he was in montepellier, it was a small club with little expectations. Now he's the main man at Arsenal and he's bottled it.
He will be thinking I'm a failure and he would be correct
He will be thinking I'm a failure and he would be correct
=====================
Rubbish.
Anyway, whatever you think of his ability on the pitch, Giroud has been quoted more than once this Summer saying he would welcome another striker coming to club either to challenge him or play off him, and say that he wants whatever is best for the team - quite refreshing given the self-centred attitudes and overinflated egos of some players these days.
"He will be thinking I'm a failure and he would be correct"
Good comment
The advantage of a striker like Suarez would be that he could complement Giroud very well. Giroud will get tons of games next season.

Cereal you are the one for me
We should be thankful that the only striker we have at the moment (dont think that Sanogo is ready to play instead of Giroud) not afraid of competition. And I can see that a player like Suarez and Giroud could play both together in one team. That would give us more option. A player who is decent at crosses and set pieces and a player who can run into defenders and outplay them.
Well I see some really have made up their minds already.
Very good article OP.
And ....there is no guarantee in signing Suarez and to think he will get Arsenal 30 goals a season. Would Higuain who is higher rated as Giroud would have change the game yesterday and on Saturday? Dont think so.
He will be thinking I'm a failure and he would be correct
Fair comment Someday. Haven't seen/heard a lot on him this summer personally and don't know what he has quoted this summer hence why I came out with this thread.
Still think he'd expect some game time though if he had someone competing with him and he might feel a little uncomfortable when he hasn't done bad in his first season in the Premier League.

Exactly. You need consistency to win Trophies and Titles, not World Class players.
Look at man City last season for example. Look at all the money and World Class players they have, but they didn't win the league. There team is by far and away the strongest in the league, but Man United had the consistency that's how they won the league.
=====================
Coincidentally, Man United also had a world class striker to finish off them chances esp in the early/mid season.
Thanks Gunnerthru for the complement on the thread created.
It might be worth it but it's a case of is it a little bit risky playing both your Top CF's together. Because, if it doesn't work, do you then have a 2nd option if you need someone to come off the bench and do a job? Does Sanogo really have that to offer you?
LRF, people already make up their minds on Giroud and compare him to RVP. The pressure on Giroud last season to perform was too high and you could watch it in every game. He tried and lost a bit of the confidence he had at Montpellier. Nothing came off for him at the beginning. And if you read only this comments on this thread alone you see how he felt the pressure.
He is not in the class of RVP or any other so called world class striker as he had a completely different career than any other striker at Arsenal before.
We must sign another striker. Better we sign two if you ask me but he is good enough to play for Arsenal. I am absolute convinced of it.
Coincidentally, Man United also had a world class striker to finish off them chances esp in the early/mid season.
-------------------------------------------------------
So do City, in fact, they have many World/Top Class Strikers that could have done the same job. Aguero, Tevez, Balotelli (up until Jan), Dzeko etc and they now have Negredo. Them options as good as what Man United have and they have a better midfield and a stronger defence line IMO.
But they didn't win it because they didn't have consistency.
Does Sanogo really have that to offer you?
I wont judge on Sanogo watching him only at the WC for under 21 and yesterday. I dont think he is much better than Giroud and must learn his trade in the PL League as he is young and without experience.
No one answer my question. Would have Higuain scored more in that Arsenal team against Napoli and Gala?
Sanogo's on par with afobe. Akpom's the kid we should be raving about
Exactly my point. You could use another Striker, it wouldn't be a bad thing if you did, but I know he is good enough for Arsenal.
Arsenal fans, your expectations seem to be sky high. Just scrapping 4th place in the PL so don't expect to have a World Class Striker waltz straight through the door and onto the Training Pitch straight away. There are only a handful of World Class Strikers on this planet at the moment and the majority playing at a better club than Arsenal. It will be tough to find a World Class one if you don't get Suarez. I think you spent too much time and missed out on Higuain really. Should have got him at a cheaper price while you had the chance.
At the time you sold RVP, you were never going to be able to sign someone in the same bracket as what he was in really, no matter how hard you tried. Giroud was brought in to be back-up behind RVP initially to add to your depth up front. But, this is your chance to get Suarez, a World Class Striker, in the club, you need to get the deal wrapped up ASAP before it turns out to be another Higuain deal. If it turns out like that, Top 4 will no be obtainable.

---------------------
Compared to who? Giroud?
If Higuain had the preseaon that Giroud has had, there is no doubt that he would have scored plenty in that Arsenal team.
Lets not fool ourselves because we didn't get Higuain. He is quality striker. Giroud is a notch below the level of strikers in most CL teams that make the knock out stages.
I meant at the Emirates Cup, Jenius.
If he would have scored last season is just speculation but I highly doubt it.
LRF your last comment especially and your contribution is spot on
It doesn't all need to be through comparisons does it. Looking at the majority of the Gunners fans comments on here, your expecting Giroud to be as good as RVP, Higuain, Suarez etc. He's not.
In his 1st PL season, first ever CL season, hit through Injuries at times, at a cost of only £12.5M, 11 goals in 17 appearances is not a bad turnover at all.
But, he isn't a notch down from CL teams Strikers. He is from the 'World Class' teams yes, but not anyone else to be fair. It would be unfair to say he isn't good enough for any other CL side that finish in the final qualifying spot(s).
Thanks Gunnerthru. I think the only Arsenal fan who understands my logic towards Giroud as a Striker. Appreciated.
