Add cleverly to that list
Smalling - Needs a prolonged spell without injuries to train regularly and get more games. An injury to Evans/ Rio or Vidic would obviously suit him.
Jones - Same as Smalling, but also needs to find a position, which imo is at CB.
Evra (controversial but feel he has more to offer)
-Disagree with you there, terrific player in good form.
Valencia - Needs an injection of confidence. Still looked better than Zaha.
Nani - I think Moyes will show confidence in him this season and that he'll thrive on that.
Young - I actually rate him as a big game player who doesn't particularly rely on form to put in a good performance. Just as well for him because he probably won't be starting all that often.
Anderson - Same as Nani provided he can stay fit. Moyes' more hands on, physical approach to training could benefit him.
Kagawa - First season was still decent, I've never really doubted him and reckon he'll do well this season.
Welbeck - I like him and admire his skill on the ball and ability to retain possession. I think he just needs confidence. One goal will lead to more hopefully.

You think Nani wouldn't benefit from being nailed on to start on the right every week, or Jones and Smalling from playing as centre backs instead of right backs? Or Welbeck from playing as a striker?
I don't think Cleverley is under-performing. He's just not quite as good as everyone initially thought he was.
For the record, I think Smalling, Jones, Young, Ando and Kagawa have suffered because of injuries.
Smalling, Jones, Kagawa and Welbeck have been victims of being played out of position, while Nani was being left out of the side for a very poor Valencia.
God knows what's been wrong with Valencia. Still think Evra sometimes neglects the defensive side of his game although he was better last season.
You guys think Nani will play more this season?
Well, Nani played 10 times last season so if he doesn't I'd be very surprised.
"I feel that if we had a definitive first XI and played it week-in, week-out, we would get more out of our best players"
Name a top half PL team that does that. Maybe five to ten years ago, but it is not a viable way to get through a 60-game season.

Maybe not every week, but rotate far more than most.
We do rotate more than most.
And we win more than everybody else.

We'd have been Chelsea last season under Di Matteo. Blew everyone away from the beginning, but falter away sharply.
Here is a list of players I think could be performing better than they are, or did last season.
There isn't a player in the world who couldn't improve.
