P.S. The referee chickened out of giving a penalty and a second yellow card to Whitbread when he pulled Poleon back by his shirt in the box, right in front of the Ref.
Just because we didn't concede today, doesn't mean the defence is any good
That game at nil nil written all over it from start
I agree dub, I think the team will be much better organized than last year and rudy will shine.
Agree with LIW
Austin and Green broke down everything. Leicester couldn't do jack. Lees and Pearce both look iffy early on. Peltier wern't great either.
Agree with poster regarding Poleon and Smith
LIW if you didn't see a good defensive performance today you were watching the wrong match.
Austin & Green are part of the defensive organsation in my book and Pearce and Lees won every single header that came to them against a tall City forward line.
Dubai
That was a easy game to defend in.
I also saw the same in some games last season
Not saying we didn't defend well today but all am saying is it doesn't mean we are still good enough at the back
Peltier defended well today. When Byram comes back Peltier will further improve the defence when he goes into the centre.
Agree faith, peltier for lees will improve us
If defence is so good and Peltier will improve central defence when Byrarm is back then why is BM looking for a centre back?
Seems to me to be a distinct lack of creativity from midfield, be that central or from the wings.
we don't have any wings Jonty
Agree with your post Dubai, especially the bits regarding Poleon Austin and the Fans
Peltier is very poor on the ball, would be better on the bench when Byram gets back, Lees needs to be replaced, Pearce is starting to get some confidence back and is looking good.
Totally agree about Poleon & Smith, best strike partnership at the moment, Poleon is looking very sharp.
Good result today and it did have 0-0 written all over it, Rudy was exceptional, totally different player now he's fit and fresh in mind too.
Pelts is horrible as a right back, has a bit of speed but so poor technically. As a central defender he is better imo.
Lees...I know he is young but his hoofball is so infuriating as is his marking.
Pearce...ok he gives his all but is a complete caveman with his thinking.
A central defender is vital!
A fit Ryan Hall
A winger
A Ross played in the position that he scored 18 odd goals in a couple of seasons back.
A Michael Tongue instead of Green
Its a start.
Lees...I know he is young but his hoofball is so infuriating as is his marking.
--------
Agree with that....how many goals did we concede from headers in area last season with Lees often comlpetely lost.
Top teams need intelligence, we lack it. Whilst I back the 4 points we have from an deserving perspective, certain aspects are NOT working. Those "individual aspects" (last season it was whole) will get found out eventually.
P.s Jonty we conceded lots! When ur keeper is 6 foot 1 and his centre backs are no more than 6 foot 2, you need the mental ability 2 balance it out....we dnt have that.
Not sure what Hunt brings? I know it's early and he'll prob need time, but don't see what he's there to do?
Harrogate
I think no matter how well or bad a player plays when they first come, you get a feel for them and what there game is about
Hunt for me is a nothing player
He's a good character in and around the dressing room
Maybe he was brought in because they thought they were going to lose/sell Ross.
I don't know why we needed to sign another Varney, and at the moment Varney is outshining Hunt, if outshining is really the correct word to use?!?!?!
What we do have are players in attacking roles that will hound the defenders and make it very difficult for sides to get comfortable on the ball. Not flash I know but will be difficult to play against.
Would love to see Poleon and Smith start against Wednesday
Hunt does seem like another Varney.
I've defended Varney on here, I think he'll be a useful player to have in the squad and isn't as bad as people say. But we don't need two.
