Players will leave

That's not our problem but the arsenal staff, we need to invest in top players and I believe we will, the circumstances are inconceivable

We could face an exodus if we don't strengthen the team AND fail to challenge for trophies, since that will show zero ambition from the board and the manager and the player's have the right to demand more

Meanwhile Chelsea is signing Etoo

Sorry, but even with a bit of late spending, our squad just isn't good enough to challenge on all fronts.

I was actually very confident that we would make signings but as each day passes, the reality of the situation is dawning on me. What's the hold up?
I said earlier in the summer in jest that the reason we haven't signed anyone is because we haven't sold anyone and we have to make a profit every transfer window.

Thus far we have made about £10M profit, which is not enough to sign anyone and still make a profit.

I actually think there is some truth in that logic

Penguin, after reading the Arsenal board on ja606 I've bet against Arsenal twice this season and both times they have played superbly. I'm starting to think the Arsenal team is pretty good.

Arsene why do you do this to us?!

posted on 29/8/13

Admin1 the team is good only when half of them isn't injured. And we will face much sterner opposition than Fenerbahce and Fulham

We're a couple of injuries away from having to use the likes of sanogo and miyachi, not acceptable.

I think the Arsenal team is much better than people give them credit for. I think this team will surprise a lot of people and do quite well. Sunday's game will be the true test - if we win that comfortably and maybe, just maybe, we can start looking further up than fourth.

However, as has been the problem with our team many, many times under Wenger, we've got a very good team but beyond the first XI there's a load of cack. This will lead to the squad inevitably failing to meet expectations yet again.

We'll probably still get top four. But when you see players like Cazorla, Ramsey, Giroud etc at their best, you feel sorry for them because with the proper squad they and the club could achieve so much more.

Also have to consider the opposition.

Fenerbache were awful and Fulham were also fairly poor. Sunday will be the real test of this team.

I wonder if the board/Wenger know the meaning of ambition?

Would you guys prefer BOSC back or leave Bacary in the centre since he's doing pretty damn well.

Sagna has done well at Centre BAC but koscielny is on another level.

Was thinking that but feel sorry for Jenkinson who will be dropped as he's done nothing wrong tbf.

Penguin the difference is normally we have a great first XI and some cakc after that. Now we have a great first XI and nobody after that, having released the cack.

We are at a stage where Gervinho and Coquelin would improve our squad.

posted on 29/8/13

Gervinho and Coquelin should be in the squad. They're not terrible players. Coquelin would be quite useful at the moment, and Gervinho was actually showing signs of being a decent player at the end of 12-13

posted on 29/8/13

Where is COQ now, is he on loan? Was impressive in the fb position a few seasons ago.

posted on 29/8/13

I take it nobody is buying my 'we need to make a profit in the transfer window' theory?!?!

posted on 29/8/13

True Penguin but isn't it a pretty damning indictment of the current squad when we agree that Gervinho and Coquelin would improve it?

HUNTING FOR GLORY

To what end? We have been making (operational) profits for years and the monies have not been reinvested but stockpiled into a cash reserve.

There is no business requirement for the club to make a profit on player sales.

Cereal

Oh I agree. Alex Song was crap - selling him wasn't the failure, not buying a DM with the money was.
