Another new iPhone underlines why Apple are both s and business geniuses. They release virtually identical hardware every couple of months (6-12ish) and their herd flocks to throw money at them. Genius.

How do you milk a sheep? Release an iPhone

Ally

Had the 4s before and the 5 isn't really any diff. Slightly bigger screen etc.

I actually heard the new iPhone WAS meant to be groundbreaking but wasnt due for release until at least 2014 .

Is this one today maybe just a "5s"?

With a proper new one due next year?

Jay - Apple could release a banana phone and the queue outside apple stores would be massive.

yes the phone is easy to use, yes if you have only apple products it is easy to interface BUT none of the other phones are actually difficult to use!

IE - Apple will launch 2 phones this month, the 5s and the 5c. The 5c will have a plastic case and will be cheaper, the plastic case will allow the hordes to change the colour of their case so fair play to apple for a mammoth move

IE - the differences are processor speed, camera and screen size on your last upgrade hardly earth breaking!

Exactly, there isn't really a massive amount of change from the 3g to the 5s...Different screen shape and slightly faster? They jumped on the 4g train early on, which is complete bóllocks, because 4g is still miles away from being 'mainstream' as it was envisioned. Something I happen to know a fair amount about, as I've written reports on 4g compared with 3g (quite sad, i know!)

I just detest Apple as a company, I went into an Apple store once, it was horrible. Completely full of pretentious ássholes with their hipster glasses and skinny lattés, faces you want to punch

Jay - 4g will have benefits, but do we REALLY need 42mbps on a handset? The frequencies that help rural areas get coverage and the building penetration are beneficial but it depends on what cost you have to pay to get them!

Phone specs already outstrip 95% of the population requirements but in this climate people are still suckered into the annual APPLE launch!

I thought you got hipster jeans WTF are hipster glasses? You mean the dorky ones?

Undoubtedly, you just don't need to be able to stream high def movies to your phone. Especially given that while the download speeds have increased massively, you don't actually get more data allowance. Then when you go over the allowance, because you've been watching high def films, you get charged an arm and a leg to cover it! Contracts themselves have got a long way to go before I believe 4g is going to be viable.

Yeah, the ones that don't actually have prescription lenses or anything, but only serve to make you look like a with your scarf on.

My wife is completely sick of her iPhone.
Her boss just asked here what she wants instead, so she's gone for the Galaxy S4.

That will be the end of all Apple products in our house

Agreed!! I recently built my own PC, with a fairly high spec, for around £800 including everything (yes I'm a nerd)...

The equivalent mac is almost £2000! How the feck can you justify that? Alright, the latest iMacs do look absolutely fantastic, but they're not worth that money.

I use apple products because I've found them to be more reliable. But I don't update them just because a new one comes out. They're just a tool, not a fckin life changing purchase.

Had an iPhone 3GS for years until I dropped it in a stream and it got knackered so I bought a 4 when it was cheaper. Does the job fine for me. The only thing they should improve is the battery life. Quite looking forward to the new OS though, it looks nice.

What I find really weird though is the sheer vitriol poured out against apple from other folk - it's just a company FFS.

I detest them as a company because they're essentially bullshítting & living of past success. They say they're completely 'innovative' when they've not done anything of the sort since the 3g/iMac. They release virtually identical products for a premium & attempt to sue everybody who might even be using a similar method.

That said, while I don't like them as a company and will likely not buy an Apple product, they clearly have fantastic business sense. If you can milk your customers, then why the hell not?

Why do people drive BMW's when they can get a mondeo.

Why do people wear armani t-shirts and not cotton traders.

People like nicely designed things. There was been too much commoditisation of technology. All notebooks were the same cheap plastic. machines. I like using my macbook. i use it every day.

They take the p1ss when it comes to memory and disk though

And take windows off a PC and put MacOS or Linux and it runs just fast.

Better than living off someone else's success. It'll be funny as fck when apple don't release an iwatch after Samsung rushed that shietey one out last week because apple were rumoured to be working on one.

I guess we're just different people, my pc is infinitely sexier than any Apple product. If you don't buy a bland, boring case, then the whole 'looks' area is pretty irrelevant. iMacs are, in my opinion, the only Apple product that looks significantly better, and even then, it's the new one that is extremely thin. I can certinaly see the appeal of that.

I honestly don't see the difference in looks between a regular laptop, and a macbook. It's slightly thinner, granted, but with a laptop, does that even really matter?

I agree, Partick. I like Apple, but I would never be a slave to them. I got my iPhone about 3 years ago and it's still doing everything I want it to do. I may upgrade at some stage, but only if it is worth it for me. Had my ipad for about 2 years and it is also excellent. I've certainly had good value for money out of them.

It's the same with most things; phones, cars, bands, clothes - there are people who spend ridiculous amounts of money buying the latest thing their favourite has produced - it's not me, but each to their own.

Say what you like about Apple, but they set the bar!

They set it around 5 years ago. Now they have been caught up, and don't appear to have found a way to accelerate ahead of the pack again. Everyone is now producing almost identical technology, Apple just appear to churn it out faster, with less differences between iterations.

Have you seen what tablets looked like before the iPad? They had handles and buttons on them

In terms of design aesthetics and form Apple lead the way. Jonny Ive is a master at simplicity of design. I think that's what I admire the most - being a designer myself, I know that simplicity (with full functionality) is a very hard thing to achieve.

Jay.

What else do you expect them to do. As you say, most companies are creating similar looking/functioning technology. You didn't say much better, so why not have a go at those companies that have only managed (eventually) to catch up?
