"Diving: Palace chief calls for red cards after Ashley Young incident"

You only have to read things like this to realise just how reactionary and extremist some people are.
Then Mr Chelsea, the next best thing is stamping it out of England. With any luck the rest of europe would follow suit, if not at least we won't have to watch such embarrassing moments like Youngs dive in the prem every week.

This would never happen. English clubs would stop diving whilst European clubs would then capitalise on this by continuing to dive. Your view is an idealistic one and unlikely to materialise. It's like world peace.
Red cards would be tough.
Imagine the fall out if a ref red cards a player and then it is shown he didnt dive.
Would a ref have the bottle to issue a red. For the amount of dives we see in the game there are few yellow cards as it is.
Exactly. That's what I mean, it just wouldn't be feasible, you'd have people trying to intentionally make it look like players dived to get them sent off. There's too much margin for error & it's just a frankly ridiculous over reaction.
Diva/1984 - I'm not condoning it but I just dont see how it can be stopped
There's so many forms of "cheating" that goes on during a game which doesnt get the same attention as diving such as shirt pulling, time wasting, taking the ball to the corner flag, nudging a player in the box when the ref isnt looking. These are all actions that are trying to decieve the referee in order to gain an advantage.

Let the European clubs continue to dive. 9 times out of 10 players are in goal scoring positions anyway but go down. Just have to beat the european clubs without diving. I see no reason why this isn't achievable.
Tiddles the other leagues/nations dont mind if a player dives to win a penalty or gain a freekick.
Anyone found guilty of diving should be left in a room, for 10 minutes with Vidic, whilst John Terry smashes their missus's back door in.
Let's see them do it again, after that.
Like I said, your idea is great in theory, but it'sjust idealistic. In a perfect world, no one would dive, no one would pull shirts, etc. But this isn't a perfect world. And if a professional player feels he can get an advantage for his team by cheating, he most likely will

And thats the issue. Cheating is a part of the game for some. I'd hate to see that become the case in England.
Maestro. What if Vidic dives?

It's too late for that. You see it in virtually every game. Not always so blatant as Young's, but you see exaggerated, or forced contact all the time.

True. Even if we accept that it is impossible to stamp out of the game we should still punish those who do dive though. Retrospective action would be my idea. Red cards as you said are too hard to hand out for the referee, too hard to see at the time. But we could have a 1 or 2 match ban handed out by the FA afterwards. It might at least discourage players from doing it.
And Premier League spokesman Phil Dorward told The Sun: "If a player is continually booked for diving, and it becomes a problem, we'll visit the club and talk the player through what is a dive and what isn't.
"Diving is seriously frowned upon in the English game by everybody, including the players, because it's seen that you're conning a fellow professional."

Would be good if the PL got involved in stamping it out
Managers not training players to dive would be a start to solving this problem.
I agree Loz, but how are you going to convince 90% of managers in the world to do that?
Don't know jay, I only know one that has been outed by his own player.
It's derby week there is no niceness
City will have a new manager this time next year, so he may not have time to show his players the new diving techniques.
Out of the other players you mentioned who dive Young is the only English player and therefore tends to be considered much worse.
Nothing will happen from this except Young might get a few more boos and then he will get hacked down in the box and no penalty given. Or he will get fouled and booked for diving. Same thing happens every year. One player becomes the scapegoat and nothing changes. Every year a dive should be a straight red but nothing happens. Sorry Utd fans but I predict you're going to get a few wrong decisions go against you over the next few games in an attempt to "even it out"
It does remind me of Pires dive against Portsmouth? He won a penalty and the match finished a draw and that team got relegated. Doesn't sound promising for Palace if history if to repeat itself!
