I thought we deserved the win but we didn't half make hard work of it.
Those last 15mins were shocking and the only bloke with a calm head on him was Smithies who was doing his best to take the momentum out of the game by time wasting as for the rest of them...terrible. I know Jon Stead was out on his feet but trying to play Worldy passes over the top instead of running to the corner, come on Jon you know better than that

managers want to make subs and change the game/see it out..
why?
we were fine till the changes which he made to negate the pace they brought on???
sitting in your own box just means players with pace get to run at you from nearer your goal..
it also means that two big centre halves can then camp in your box...
we on the other hand had taken off our two players who can run with the ball, the single best way of running down the clock...the amount of time you can "use up" mooching it down the wing and getting throws/fouls etc is infinitely more than you get by kicking the air out of the ball up a pitch only populated with opposition players..

very basic stuff, done wrong..

we didn't need any hoddle passes
at the end, we needed to just keep hold of it and move it up the pitch by running it or simple forward passes... eventually get Vaughan in a corner with it..
professionally see it out not this under 10s gaggle at the back throwing ourselves at crosses and shots and just getting away with it...

38...I'm with you all the way on this, if you read some of my previous comments about statues, an immobile midfield and Woods trying to launch 60 yd passes against Donny etc etc...too many players not putting in the shift...and we have Gerrard and Lynch at the back presumably telling you know who to push up...but you know who is calling everybody back while remains rooted to Smithies boots...it's gone on for years and the common denominator is you know who,,,the one you have done very well not to mention

It's no wonder the fans scream and shout at the players but it makes no odds, unless Robins is shouting the instructions or the players are just ignoring him ?

Get the ball to feet , run down the wing..win a throw in..push up..pass it amongst yourselves for 5 minutes..down to the corner flag etc..

We got away with it this time but it does leave you scratching your head and wondering ...why ? again ?

OMG! You'd think Town were third from bottom judging by the negative comments here. I know that the footballing style that Robins has set out for hasn't quite worked yet, but Town are getting reasonable results.

Is there any need to be so negative and critical at such an early stage of the season? Especially when Town are now in ninth spot!

So far, I am contented with the results and Town's standing. I just wished a few more of the folk on here were too.

we were 2nd last season at this stage..
I pointed out that we might be getting away with it at the time..
got a load of sh-te thrown at me..
guess what happened?

same again defensively.. the footballing style we are trying is not the problem.. once we concede or the game starts going against us, is..

up to 70 minutes last night we did fine..kept them at arms length when they had the ball and reasonably "controlled" a poor game.. im ok with poor games as long as we are doing better than the opposition, im not expecting free flowing passing football from town for 90 minutes every game..
at 70 minutes we looked as though we thought "job done" drop away , ars- about and drift to the end..
You just cant in this division..
You also cant have a defensive strategy that includes everyone dropping deep and allowing the opposition 75% of the playing field.. its almost suicidal...
Its one thing the opposition pushing on and us finding ourselves a bit deeper, its then you need the back 3 to shove everyone up and decide not to get stuck in our own box.. charltons centre backs spent minutes up our end of the pitch in open play, unless you have a master plan to break quickly on them(we hadn't, scannell and hammill had gone off) then you are just inviting balls into the box, its cr-p...

It's a new system that Robbins is trying to get the player's to work with . It's work in progress . So get off the backs of the lads . Once it clicks you'll see a difference . The problem with you lot you just don't no anything because all you do is listen to the radio with man u on the box and a cuppa tea in your hand .

btw, im all for playing the ball and passing and moving..

its still a work in progress and other than increasing our work rate to make it work better im all for it..

the running away and standing in the box is an "old problem" and is getting to the point of just taking the p-ss...

Well no matter what manager we have its the same problems you keep mentioning.
Are you sure it's not all in your head 38 ?
Or maybe it's what all footballers do .

Champers Town doing really well. Good times lay ahead. We could be Coventry fans right now.

I nit picked last season.."good times ahead", "what a start" etc etc..

I then sat through the 6 goal hidings and the 12 match run without looking like a win..

hopefully robins is nit picking....when you lose 6 goals twice, 4 and a couple of 3s they were f-cking "BIG NITS".... and they could easily get in our hair again...

Can't see it 38 . To me we look like we can win a few this season . Last season we looked like we could lose a few even when we were winning .

We can defend a lot better this season so far too.

We'll know exactly how far we've come after Saturday . If we get something at Blackburn, it's looking good.
