Looked like a feckin trabant in Cardiff

Haha.

To be fair, new player, new league, new country. He'll be in the Prem team of the year this season for sure.

He's been better in England than Wales, I'll give you that

If he an yaya get their respective rolls sorted then he will be a good player for us.

Will judge him at the end of the season.

I've not really made my mind up about him yet. Saying that, it took me 18 months before I was convinced about Yaya.

He's got everything, the chip for Dzeko's goal against Wigan was exquisite

posted on 26/9/13

I said the other day, he's a Barry type player where most of the good things he does don't get noticed.

I'm very impressed with him so far and he will only get better.

He's only been ok so far for me if I'm honest
I did expect a bit more from him but that's probably the ludicrous price tag

I thought he was fantastic the other day Paul, his positioning was spot on. Yaya isn't the greatest at getting back, so a lot is being asked of him.

It was a lot of money, but that type of player was needed for me.

Still not seen anything to improve on what De Jong gave us
I agree he was very good against Wigan but they really were poor

Positionally, I think he is a lot better than De Jong. De jong made a lot of very good tackles but that was because he had to, it is a lot better not to have to do it in the first place. Fernandinho gets himself in much better defensive positions for me as well as the ability to make better forward passes.

I know what you mean though, I do miss de jong!

De Jong's passing wasn't that clever at times but his tackling was second to none despite the mainly negative press he got.

The press "World Cup final apart" got de Jong wrong.

Do you remember the Anti-Yaya Club on the old 606 with Vince's Shadow?!

Fernandinho will come good I think, has had both good and poor games so far, but he's the sort of player where most of what he does will go unnoticed anyway. You can already see how he's suited to the high pressing game though.

Hopefully when he and Yaya develop a real understanding, which will only come with time, they'll really start to dictate games between the two of them - think/hope he will be our Makelele.

I wouldn't say he is like Makelele as such.

He's a very clever player, knows when to draw a foul and when to cynically pull / body check an opponent to break a country attack. Reminds me of Did Haman in this regards.

He has a excellent range of passing, and an energy and pace to his game. Similar to Gerrard.

Good players make great tackles, but great players don't have to; they intercept the ball instead x

Dzekos 2nd touch is invariably a tackle

Made the exact same point earlier x.

Cost and worth are two diffeent things.

He is worth every penny and more. Absolute beast of a player with the finesse of a jewellery thief.

As a Chelsea fan I like him very much.

I know melton I was just boiling it down to a nifty soundbite.
Actually I'm waiting for all the ja606 crowd to say wow Fernandinho's amazing who needs Barry.. just say I can say, 'I told you so'

I have re watched a number of city's games over the seasons and I must say anyone who thinks de jong's forward passing range wasn't good better do what I do re watch a lot of game. He was actually very good at picking out forward runs of players in particular the season we won the title look at the game v Newcastle prior to QPR his pass set up yaya for the 1st goal plus the winner against QPR which we all remember his forward pass to aguero started the move off.

@ edin4success

Spot on. De Jong was a fantastic passer; always moved it quickly, to feet and along the ground, even when under pressure, and he rarely picked the wrong pass. You don't play as an attacking midfielder for Ajax if you can't pass a ball.

posted on 27/9/13

It was nearly always a sideways pass though but I'm just being over-critical as he'll always be a legend to me.

posted on 27/9/13

Yeah I agree with inky. I love him but I think he was far more valuable off the pitch than on it. On the pitch, he was great in a slow possession tactic, he would not suit Pellegrini though.

Loved DeJong, but we couldn't play to his strength against teams that parked the bus, which was the majority of the PL
