It was so good back in the Biscoff vs Austin era, now its all about Orton " the face of the wwe"
all good points totally agree
Great article, Like you Bumble i stopped watching really when Stone Cold left.
I catch the odd bit on the telly whilst flicking through, the crowd are so flat etc compared to the attitude era. Feel sorry for those who missed out on them days.
Do you all maybe think it was better a few years ago because you were younger. Now a little older and maybe a bit more mature have realised how silly it all really is?
1) you RARELY watch but still managed 8 paragraphs. I wish I had your free time.
2) you blow smoke up Vince's ass but criticise the rest of the family? Do you think VKM does everything himself, like some.....magician?!
3) Paragraphs 1 & 8 (beginning and end) show what your real problem is.....John Cena. But instead of creating yet another bash Cena article you tried to do it through this pile of whinging crap.
4) you moan about "angles" so much...why?! There are only so many types of feud you can do, therefore it's very bloody likely that you'll see similar storylines. It's no different to soap operas. What do you really expect that would be "fresh"? Alien Invasion storyline maybe? Zombies???
I used to find it sad that there were very few wrestling articles these days, but upon reading this tripe I'm not so sure.
"It's not as good as it used to be" articles are just so lame. I would bitchslap you if I could
break his back, make him humble
Sheiky would definitely approve of that
Mr reasonable, I detect a big of pretentiousness there. As a child, u are naturally subjective, your inability to break away from the fixation, leads u to see things in a "full on" way.
However, as an adult, nature developed our objectivity through hormones and experiences. Santa is replaced by parents giving u money, and the tooth fairy costs a truckload.
Because we watched wwe as kids, we are like a drug addict, always chasing that first high. However reality hits home when we turn on the telly and we are faced with men in trunks and repititve storylines (sorry champer m8, I do get ur point but I still hate lazy recycles)
As adults we realise that our satisfaction, is no longer simple and we need more. The attitude era was a great era as it catered to many things, including adult exclusive" plots.
Eddie vs chyna...sexual tension angle.
Stone cold vs Vince ... Corporate demographic related tension.
Today the main theme is completely out of balance and its PG all the way, which doesn't work in what is essentially simulated violence.
I want:
An end to the god awful women's division.
A proper and exclusive tag team division.
1 main belt
Intercontinental title being a direct stepping stone.
A clear understanding of roster talent, u cannot have Kofi Kingston ahead of Brody's Clay.
There are more but u get my drift, its all about the "complete" experience for adult viewers...Imo
Superb post that Mike
The bullet points at the end, well, it's hard to disagree with any of that really. I have to say I agree with the Divas comment......but I really feel for AJ Lee. Through no fault of her own she just happened to be born 10 years late. She would have complemented the likes of Trish, Lita, and to a lesser extent Beth Phoenix, so so well.
Admittedly I "watch" a lot of Raw on x30 these days, but AJ is fantastic and ill always stop to watch her segments. Sadly, there are no other Divas that come anywhere close, not even Natalya, which is criminal considering her wrestling bloodline.
I think the reason I bit at the OP is that I'm actually liking the McMahons v Locker Room feud. Stephanie has been excellent through all of this and is very believable as the 'strong management lady'. Her promos with Big Show have been excellent in the most part. Levesque has just been his usual self to be honest, but I've always enjoyed him on the mic.
Through taking this route they've been able to finally turn Orton back heel in a realistic way (thank god) and also used the pop Daniel Bryan gets to elevate him even further. You can see it in the crowd. They have a genuine underdog hero to worship. None of the other heels draw enough heat for this to have worked, but the McMahons? You can love em or hate em in a heartbeat. As has always been the case.
And the fact they've done it without any real air time for Vince deserves plaudits in my honest opinion.
I think this summed it all up very nicely...
"Admittedly I "watch" a lot of Raw on x30 these days..."
Sad but true Diamond.
It says way too much that I find a Vickie/Maddox promo more interesting than anything involving 80% of the WWE mid-carders or Divas
”And the fact they've done it without any real air time for Vince deserves plaudits in my honest opinion"
Wherever the psychologist is, he would love that statement.
He is a massive fan of Orton and the game so referencing the achievement of the angle would send him into overload.
Ah right! I know he's been desperate for the Orton heel turn (who hasn't eh?) but I didn't know he was big on HHH. I didn't think anyone here liked Triple H anymore!
HHH is one of those u cannot ignore as long as he is a heel. He has that natural ability to be a right TWA..
The inclusion of HBK for Hell in a Cell is a good move. I'd love for him to fast count Orton and screw HHH, setting up a nice out-of-ring feud between the two.
Love them or hate them, they must have one of the best chemistries ever seen in wrestling.
Does anyone know when Sheamus is back?
I heard Survivor Series Diamond but I'm not at all sure
I can see both sides of this coin. It's one of those angles which can come across as recycled, generic carp when you mistake it's simplicity for creative laziness - when in fact the only lazy plot device is Big Show.
It's not gone exactly the why i'd have booked it (I ironically for the OP would've had more McMahon family/Orton tension ), but the mere fact it consists of believable characters portrayed in believable situations resulting in believable factions developing gives it the advantage of self-sustaining as a story regarding of the booking, as opposed to the usual tale of WWE writers giving us an overly simulating beginning (originality for the sake of originality like Nexus) which sees them grasping at straws to maintain it's relevance.
As 'smart' fans we sometimes get to bogged down in the practical technicalities. We've seen this before! What big stars will this angle produce! It's making Bryan look weak! It's turning Big Show into a joke! Boreton's on top for the billionth time! More air time for Stephanie! And so on..... but the fact is I defy someone to mention to me something about this angle which hasn't made sense both from a position of narrative and character? Even the Big Show sub-plot is theoretically plausible, where WWE have dropped the ball on it is glossing over his motivations by simply referring to his financial woes rather than showing them to us (WWE's cardinal sin over the last 10 years, the notion that hearing something is just as valuable as seeing it).
*regardless of the booking
I know he's been desperate for the Orton heel turn (who hasn't eh?) but I didn't know he was big on HHH. I didn't think anyone here liked Triple H anymore!
-------------------------------------------------------
I always appreciated the Orton/HHH dynamic - with regards to an unholy alliance being formed I was 2 years ahead of creative
With the added bonus of coma inducing big nose because everyone knows how he really got to the top!
------
I won't accept that
HHH may be married to the boss' daughter but he certainly climbed the WWF/E without their input.
Remember, Hunter Hearst Helmsley went on to form DX with HBK and was eventually challenging for the title with sidekick Chyna.
It's also worth noting that HHH has a lower win ratio post marriage to Stephanie
The Clique got Hunter to the top, Stephanie insured he stayed there. Pretending politics has played even only a minor role in HHH's rise is silly, same with Orton, but equally the idea that Stephanie was the catalyst that propelled him to the main event is rewriting history.
