A few thoughts on Gloucester...

Hi there!

I'd be that man

Where to start then, well Sporty wouldn't approved but lets go back to front. From 7 to 15 Gloucester should be a match for any Premiership side and probably any European side. The tight 5 is more of a concern, though its far from falling apart either.

The results this year have been odd - bad losses to Sale and Exeter, a creditable performance at Saracens, despite Nick Wood's stupidity, a good win at home to Northampton and a rather dull one at Newcastle. The pattern here seems to be playing well against the better sides but less so against those perceived to be weaker.

Here then is the worry, is there a mentality coming in of we only have to try against the likes of Leicester, Saracens etc - this is very different from the Tigers mentality of play every game like its your last, though Leicester are somewhat unique in that respect.

I think there is a lack of leadership out there which is allowing substandard performances to be acceptable, and hence the losses. Motivation against Harlequins is easy, motivation against Sale less so, though a good side should be able to do both.

I'm slightly concerned over bad habits and a bad attitude developing - players like Burns and Twelvetrees have been feted as the next big things, and might be starting to live off their own hype. What we need is a clear leader as Hamilton wouldn't have stood for this, nor Tindall, neither had the talents of Burns or Twelvetrees, but what they lacked their they made up in sheer application. Savage soesn't appear to be laying the law down and it doesn't seem to be coming from Nigel Davies either, but Gloucester need refocussing and quickly, maybe Perpignan tomorrow will give the opportunity to start this but we need some focus for the Bath game as they're getting it together this season

Great game at the weekend. For the first 15 minutes Perpignan looked formiddable! Running the ball from everywhere and battering the line at every opportunity.

Extremely disappointed to have conceeded ANOTHER try within the first two minutes of the game! We cannot keep giving oursleves an even bigger mountain to climb. However, showed great character to come through with a victory.

Jonny May doesn't half make a difference! Any time he's on the ball there's danger, and he is starting to run some sublime support lines! Offering a real selection head ache, but at the moment Sharples is the right man to be on the bench.

Looked better up front, although the scrum went one way then the other, so hard to get a real gauge on that.

Munster at Thomond park will be a cracking test!

Hey SARS mate...

Gloucester need to sort that scrum out the few times I've seen them...they've always looked good in most areas except the front 3...the problem is the big sexy lads in the front row are in high demand and cost a lot of cash to get the best ones!

Hi Sporty, hope all is well with you, though I do worry about your sanity when it comes to "big sexy lads in the front row" I haven't seen who Steenkamp is dating or married to but I would assume the person in question is blind!

With Nick Wood out the front three is becoming more of a problem, but with Hamilton gone the whole tight five has its issues, hopefully things might just fit into place but it looks like it could be a rather frustrating season, we'll see I guess

I'm very well thanks mate - hope you are too.

I like to think that I'm one of many of the new breed of metrosexual props out there...smashing the scrums and looking good doing it!!!

If fine, or rather I was until I read "metrosexual props" what would Gareth Chilcott or Nick Popplewell make of that!
