Townsend is class. Easy candidate for team of the season.
How good would he be if he played for Arsenal Sheriff? Still class? <smiley)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please tell me this is a joke.
Sheriff are you facking kidding me?!
Townsend most definitely is not class. He's quick, he can cut inside well and he has a decent shot. He's one of the most one dimensional players in the league.
He's a decent Premier League player. That's it. He doesn't offer much else. He's a slightly better version of Lennon.
He's had a lot of good games. If by class, you mean classy, then maybe I've exaggerated, but if you're talking of a traditional wide man who can consistently beat his man and put the opposition defence under pressure and provide an outlet to relieve his own team, then yes he's class. He's been one of Spurs' best players and Spurs are not exactly battling regulation. So yes, he's having a good season.
Can't think of many wide men in the league having better seasons. You can list them if you like.

Oh my god, you were being serious.
Rather than rambling on, just name me all the better wide players than him this season and be done with it. Team of the year candidate so far.

He's scored a few goals and he's quick. He is too obvious, there is no variety to his game. He's going to run at you, cut inside and take a shot. Most of the time the shots are miscued. He went through a bit of a purple patch for about a month. But he's not done much since. He is also too selfish with the ball; he doesn't always make the right decisions and for a winger, his crossing is substandard, from what I've seen. How many assists does Townsend have? Nothing special at all.
''Can't think of many wide men in the league having better seasons. You can list them if you like.''
There's been a rapid decline in the quality of wingers in the league, but even then, I can name better this season.
Rosicky - and he's not even a natural winger, but he has had to play out wide on numerous occasions this season.
- Jay Rodriguez
- Sessegnon
- Bacuna
- Arnautovic
- Gouffran
- Nasri
These are players who have played on the wing that have impressed me more than Townsend.
And having a dig abouut a player after a poor game is easy. Ozil has looked fairly dodgy for a few games for us now. A rival fan wanting to prove he's an overrated, overpriced player would have a field day trolling.
Even Januzaj and Gnabry look like more intelligent and technically gifted players than Townsend.

Sessengnon and Nasri and Rosicky are the only serious names there. The rest haven't had better seasons at all.
Bacuna has played right back most of the season...
Even Januzaj and Gnabry look like more intelligent and technically gifted players than Townsend.
--------------------------------------------------
I've actually watched a lot of Januzaj and while he's looked good, there's the typical insane overdrive in the English press. He's not nearly as good as the pages he's creating in the media. And there's no facking way Gnabry has been anywhere near as good as Townsend.

Bacuna is a wing-back. Correct. Initially I wasn't sure what position he played, as he seemed to offer good attacking and defensive capabilities. But I've been reading through a few Villa forums and they've said that they prefer him being switched to a winger, as Lambert has done at half time when Villa have looked toothless. Even at wing-back, from what I've seen of Bacuna, he has looked like more of a complete wide player than Townsend.
''Sessengnon and Nasri and Rosicky are the only serious names there. The rest haven't had better seasons at all.''
You don't think Jay Rodriguez or Gouffran have impressed more than Townsend? Can't agree with you at all. The latter particularly is very underrated.
''nd there's no facking way Gnabry has been anywhere near as good as Townsend.''
Read what I said again. I never said they'd been as good as Townsend. I said they look technically gifted and more intelligent. Their lack of game time means I can't make an accurate judgement to compare them.
Samir - villa have been playing 433 mostly and he's been their RB
I don't dispute that. However, Lambert has moved him higher up the pitch to offer more of an attacking threat when Villa have looked toothless, which they have done in the last 3 or 4 games. Managers are allowed to change their tactics.

They simply aren't the constant menace Townsend is. I can assure you the likes of Sagna, Gibbs, Ashley Cole etc would rather face Goufran over 90 minutes than Townsend.
That doesn't make him a winger...

Okay, fine. Whatever floats your boat. In any case though, my point still stands - Townsend has not been as impressive as the names I've listed above. Whether you want to include Bacuna or not is up to you. That's not to say Townsend is poor, because he isn't. But he is not that good.
Sheriff
Townsend is good at what he does, but like I say, he has no variety to his game at all. It's predictable. But it's effective. However, over the last few games, teams seem to know how to defend against him. And judging by the reaction of the Spurs board, they want him to offer more to the team. Like crosses. Natural width. Passing ability and composure.
Mirallas, Amalfitano, Arnautovic, Rodriguez, Brady, Nasri, Valencia, Januzaj, Ravel Morrison - All of them have been better than Townsend this season.
Townsend has 1 goal all season and it came from a dodgy cross. He hasn't even made a single assist yet. Facking hell. Team of the season. Unbelievable.
About time Sheriff admits who he really supports. No self respecting proper Arsenal fan would claim stupid statements that Zola was better than Bergkamp.
He plays on the wing for West Ham
