Welbeck really gets slated on here. He all round game is really good, just poor in front of goal.

We watched a different game. Welbeck was involved in virtually every decent passage of play tonight, had he scored one of the chances, no one would be saying he was terrible.

Welbeck has good work rate and creates a lot of opportunities but my God, at times it's like he's never seen a ball or a goal before.

I can't fault Welbecks work rate and Heskey worked hard too, especially in defence. Both men are classed as Strikers though so the question still remains......as a striker who seems worse?

What is this good all around game that keeps being mentioned when welbeck is concerned. Do people know what having a good all around game consists of? It's more than just working hard.

Welbeck has only scored 8 goals for England in his whole career! Heskey has already got 7 and is still so young.

Welbeck was poor and shouldn't be compared to Heskey, who scored 22 goals in one season for Liverpool.

I agree with you

Even the mrs was having a go at welbeck but he does work hard for the team

It's a cliche now but he can't keep being a Bambi on ice forever

Heskey gets unfairly slated as does Welbeck

They're the same player and what they offer(ed) in terms of hold up play, work rate, and general 'team' play is something managers value for good reason.

Welbeck does = Heskey, but that's not an insult.

Welbeck was poor
---------------------
Not as poor as Sturridge who for me was the worst player on the pitch in both games

Wellbeck has a bit of trickery and flair, except when he got in the box.

Heskey was a cart horse.

Did Heskey ever score as little as 1 goal a whole PL season when he was Welbeck's age?

Welbeck didn't play up front last season

I didnt know that it's impossible to score from the wing. God knows how other players have managed to score from playing out wide.

Welbeck isn't a winger. Nor is he a composed finisher.

Last night his attitude was spot on but his overall game wasn't

Compare that to Sturrudge who needed to be told that there were some other England players on the pitch last night

So what does Welbeck being to the table?

posted on 16/10/13

Sturridge didn't have a great game but was still far better than Welbeck, who was woeful. He was better second half, even if it was defensively.

Remember when I told you Rooney wasn't playing well as his heart wasn't in it as something was going on and you told me that I was wrong, it's because he's lost ability etc etc. This is sort of the same situation here. You'll see that Welbeck isn't good enough, he only plays for England because he plays for United, which I don't see lasting too long.

Wellbeck is never going to be a class striker, so he should stop playing as though he is. He's OK when he's running at the defence. But when stuck in the middle of the defence his feet aren't fast enough to get a killer shot in. So he just blasts and hopes. And it doesn't work. Stick say Bent in the same position and the ball would be in the net.

But Bent isn't going to get a look in. So Hodgson either has to find another centre forward or work out a different style up front. Maybe he should give Wellback a Heskey DVD.

Mrc I had a pint with Ralphie earlier tonight

He had a meeting with stretford yesterday and he's at roo's tommoz doing some electrics in Kai's new 'big boy's' room

He told me a few things about roo's house that was like ffs, how the other half live

The ceiling in clay's nursery sounds jaw dropping and I asked him why he couldn't ring sky himself to sort out bt sport and Ralphie just laughed and said I should see his 'AV' room where he has 3 racks full of electrical stuff including his satellite equipment.

Will do a thread tommoz when back on a PC with some minor other news on top of the kids' new bedrooms
